piledriver - Official AMD FX4300,FX6300 and FX8350 review thread

An i5 3570K on a Z68/Z77 with a HD7950

Yeah realised that... I havn't built a system for a while - though I will be in the next few months which is why I am looking around - and made a VERY noob error.

The point I was aiming at was that for the budget spent on the i7 machines in the reviews they are running against the 8350 you could put a massively better GPU in... I get that people want to compare one to the other - and in fairness once you get to an i7 rig for gaming I guess money can't be that much of an issue!

Get the FX-8350 or even the FX-8320 and the better GPU.

The results for the most part: i7 3770K vs FX8### on a 7970 for example are the same or close enough.

No point in spending the extra £80 on the CPU instead of the GPU.

Which isn't wrong.

They're doing an i5 set of results, so that'll be better price versus price.

By that logic, should we be comparing an i3 with a 8350?

Every review I've seen pretty much states, PD stands well with the 3570 whilst actually performing BETTER than the 3770k with the right workloads.

Can we stop spanking Intels monkey at every opportunity like some OCD gibber jabber and start calling a spade a spade? This is a good value chip bearing in mind its price and where its currently placed.

You bought one? please let us know what you think of it :)

As soon as the piledriver appeared on OCUK. I chose the 8350.

I will run some testing and benchmarks. I got the 2133 ram to see what effects overclocking the bus will have compared to just multiplier clocking. I will be using 1920 x 1200p with my twin frozr 6950 for graphics, not ultra high end but average. A 990x chipset motherboard with the latest available bios from ASUS and 8GB of ram. Cooling is a TRUE with push pull akasa vipers. Case is Lian Li v1000 plus with two 120mm fans.

I will determine the highest bus clock for the system and then use multipliers to get the best OC.

Suggestions for benchmarks? Only freely available ones please, I do not own many games and won't buy just to bench.

Overall a typical setup for many on here with AMD.

EDIT: Order Status: In our warehouse queue.

OOO does that mean that there now in stock?

Run heaven with OCUk settings, 3DMARK11, try overclocking and running the same again.

Post a WEI scores as well just interested.

You running windows 7?

I've bought some patriot 2133 ram to get the memory controller working and enable a boost to the bus clock. Only need this processor to arrive now.

Apparently the recommendation is to keep NB and HT speed the same in sync and to overclock the FSB to around 250.... (If that makes sense to you!)

I miss old school clocking, Intel is pretty boring in that regard....

My thoughts and sentiment exactly.............

Also missing from previous post, I am using a seasonic x650 PSU

Oh get off it.

Also, what with the i3? The price of the 8350 and 3570 are very similar.

When has HT ever been a game changer for gaming? It's always been the case of the i5's enough as there's next to no difference between the two.
I never said the 83XX can't beat the 3770 in certain workloads (Because it can) but this is a gaming review, they may's well compare price for price.

I think I've said several times that these chips can give incredible price/performance.

Also how many 3570's do 4.8 without monster cooling?

Couldn't tell you, but what's that got to do with anything? I'm not saying keep the figures as they are, I'm saying changing the rig to the i5 rather than the i7 and it won't see a drastic FPS change in favour of the 8350, which it won't.

Even if they put an i5 3570 at 4.6GHZ, do the review again, the results (While lower due to clock etc) will still show similar results in the difference.
