Pirates Ahoy!

Thanks Berserker... a much more pressing issue is that my VMware server install is ruined and wont let me connect, which is more than a bit of a problem... I think i have cracked BOINC, but tbh if i cannot get VMware working, its a bit of a disaster!

Well, i cannot login to localhost! Basically, im using server 2 installed on my main machine for running the linux folding client and to use linux for a course im doing at uni. I installed BOINC and fiddled around with the config whilst running a VM. When i went to click into the vm console, i got an error saying that the host had lost contact with the machine (which happens sometimes if CPU/kernel loads go very high... or something like that anyway!). I clicked to login again and thats it... have not been able to since. I have uninstalled BOINC and VMware, as well as deleting all of the VMware files in the C: drive and the appdata part of my user data, and still nothing. If i do a fresh install of vmware and try to log in to the web interface, i just get '503 Service unavailable', which is odd when all the usual VMware processes/services are running fine...

I dont really know what to do and its quite important to get it up and running again... Any advice is appreciated - currently looking to google for help, but to no avail...

EDIT: I lie... not all processes are running as they should. The VMware Web Access service is not running, and stops straight away when trying to start it in services.msc - if thats any help!

It says this in the event logs:

The VMware Server Web Access service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

And thats it... The same message, lots of times!

I've just quickly ran some numbers. So far today, the gap has widened, and if we can keep this up, we could unstomp ourselves from my old team (The Planetary Society). On a personal level, that's be rather sweet. :D

Oh deary deary me.. latest boincstats paint a pretty picture :)

Code:
Pos.	Team Name Total credit	Credit/day
66	The Planetary Society 10,336,165 44,107
67	OcUK - Overclockers UK 10,276,597 [COLOR="Lime"][B]48,013[/B][/COLOR]

If IIS and Tomcat are running try stopping one or the other.

What OS is the host running?

Sorry - the host is running Vista 64. I'll try your link biffa, cheers.

EDIT: Thanks for the input guys, but i really need to go to bed! This will have to wait until tomorrow... I can see a dreaded OS reinstall on the horizon...!

After trying Biffa's solution, have a look at recent log files in C:\ProgramData\VMWare\VMWare Server - and especially the ones in the tomcat-logs folder. They might shed some light on the problem.

If you can't get to the bottom of which logs you should look at, delete the old ones and try starting the service again. It might create new logs for you to look at.

I had that problem once too. I fixed it by uninstalling VMWare, making sure I deleted all its files (from the VMWare folder and from the user folders) and then reinstalling.

Erm hello!

cteamcred3.php

Trippled :D

On a side note I've had three out of 12 units "Client error Compute error" on my results list

Indeed, my sentiments exactly, you would think they would learn by now not to prod the hornets nest that is TeamOcUK!!! :p

Shall we go and taunt them mercilessly in their forum? It "should" be safe as long as you don't click on any links

I have tried this, but will give it another go this evening. Thanks everyone for your help - tbh, if i cannot get it to work quickly this evening i will download a trial of VMware workstation and use that for a month until the easter holidays when i may have a more realistic chance of a format/clean install.

Cheers Biffa and Berserker, your help is apprecaited. Last time i ever help out the OCuK BOINC team! :p
