TeamOcUK.co.uk graphs are looking very positive I must say - major boost to cpu, member and production totals - Looks as if yesterday was the first real stats pickup day.

Looking forward to my status being upgraded to active when the credit starts rolling in today :)

Edit: looks as if I'm not the only one checking the stats at work this morning :D

Can anyone impart a little advice on setting this up to get the most out of my C2D please?

I had a read of the boinc faq's and am none the wiser.

Theres not much you can do I'm afraid. You can overclock your CPU a bit to give it some extra oomph but try not to push the memory too far.

In a way its nice and simple and a fairly level playing field.

Can I just ask a performance question - I have a lowish spec pc currently running ubuntu.

Is the linux client faster? Or will installing XP on this machine give better performance (after I've spent a while butchering running processes)? It's only got 512mb of ram.

On that note, does Ram or CPU affect processing speed more?

On another note...does performance decrease (noticeably) with Virtual machines? Or could I run this in...for example four different Virtual machines on a quad core processor to get 4xresults?

Lowish spec - but it inc a quad
R@H uses loads of ram - single client in windows will run four work units. nice and easy but will need at least 1GB of free RAM.

Folding is faster on Ubuntu don't know if rosetta is or not?

No I have several computers, one of which has a quad core, one of which is a low spec linux box.

Does it need 1gb of free ram to even start running? In which case either not bother with the linux box, or just wack more ram in it?

Also, (sorry to keep asking!), does disabling the graphical aspect turn around quicker result yields?

(EG I know that running SETI@Home via the command line is a lot faster then running the gui + screensaver).

I'd recommend 256MB for Linux, 256MB for X (if you're using it), and 256MB for each CPU core for Rosetta@home. Any CPU 1.6GHz with 512KB L2 cache or better will run Rosetta@home, but you should bear in mind the cost/performance - a PC at that spec will net you 80 points/day. A Q6600 will get you at least 1200.

It'll help a little, but not much.

Used to be true in the bad old days, but since the screensaver got DirectXified, there's no longer that much difference (unless of course you're using the CUDA optimized client).

Aye thats fine, I'm thinking of using it as an additional cruncher, not an either/or option. Though I can't off the top of my head remember what cpu it has.

I'll just leave ubuntu on it and install rosetta on that. 80 points/day is fine, they all add up!

Ok well, one more to add tonight and then that'll be my crunchers set up for a while:
