Planetary Annihilation - Kickstarter Project

It's a silly price all will will achieve are less buy ins.

Better to have 10,000 x £19.99 than 1000 x £68

Did you even read the above? They priced it high because that is how much the Kickstarter people had to pay.

They are reducing the price in a few months for Beta and then I assume again for launch.

It's weird to me why you have to pay more to alpha test it though. It's usually the other way around! Pay less to help the dev make a good game.

This does look like an awesome game and I really loved Supreme Commander, I was put off by the price so I will wait till beta is released and then take another look.

If it captures the fun I had with sup com, then this game should be very good indeed.

I guess the current price includes alpha + beta, hence the slightly higher price than just beta which comes later

yeah, the release price wont be this high (though technically I paid more because of KS) :D

So, I got my key, downloaded the launcher, logged into that using my ubernet username and password. Then it downloaded the latest version and loaded up. Now it is asking for my Uber ID and password, I have tried my ubernet username and it does not work - what is it asking for with the Uber ID?

I sussed it, my password had a fullstop in it. Seems that is allowed in on the ubernet site but not in the game itself.

Quite enjoying the beta, for those that have not played it I would describe it a Total Annihilation prior to the Core Contingency in terms of units and feel. They have gone down the route of having to build a tech 1 lab to get a tech 1 bot which in turn can then build a tech 2 lab which was the TA method rather than the SC upgrade way. They also have separate vehicle and bot factories which is again like TA. No sign of any Tech 3 or above yet.

At the moment they're not looking at doing Tech 3 or experimentals, though they haven't ruled it out for the future.

I will miss tech 3 but I hated experimentals in FA, far far too cheap - just became a case of first to spam a yotha or monkey lord out first first wins and screw any strategy, so for me this is very welcome news!

They should've priced it differently. When you kickstart the game, you make a pledge towards the project, in this case developing a game. The devs reward you at different levels for your pledge.

I don't ever remember the devs suggesting that when you pledged $100 towards the game's development, that you'd be rewarded with $100 worth of items. That's not just problem a with this kickstarted project mind, but near enough every kickstarted game project that I have seen. They're used as early preorders when it should be a donation towards the development.

The price for this Early Access release should have been their standard release RRP, and the alpha/beta testing should be free. It should have been priced at around £30-40 and no more.

The price made me nearly fall off my chair!
Ive not backed it or even looked at the kickstarter page, instead all I saw was a totalbiscuit video on the game which got me interested but I wont be paying over twice the price of a regular pc game launch price im afraid...

i understand why its that high, i backed it but not at the alpha level, personally im only interested in playing the full fat final product.

the bit that grates i suspect is because it is on steam which they are now basically using as a means to run a now continuous donation system till launch. I doubt it would be as bad if say you could continue to donate on their site and upgrade your "reward level" as necessary.

As a MASSIVE TA fan this sounds better then I could have imagined, I was concerned about it going more SC route then true to TA origins, but it looks good.

Is there now any benefit to buying Beta over say waiting for the release (other then the obv early access) ?
