Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Did a half yesterday afternoon and even though I put body glide on nips, once my two running shirts became totally wet at 10km mark nips didn't stand a chance. Got back to find nipple blood all over my shirt. Almost died last 2k, missus spotted me and said I looked like I was about to collapse oops

Certainly keeps mind off sore legs

Found a possible buyer for my S2 Apple Watch, so S3 ordered (non LTE as I don't need it and not with EE)

Also can I get your opinion on watches? I'd like to avoid having to use my phone to track so I can leave it at home. I was thinking of buying me and my girlfriend a Garmin Forerunner FR25 or Garmin Forerunner FR35. Price wise can currently be had for £90 and £130.

What's different between them? Just the heart rate monitor?

Recently bought a Forerunner 35 and really like it. The Bluetooth connectivity and auto upload to Strava is so much better than having to plug my old 110 into the computer after every run.

I think the HR data is useful so would definitely get the 35

What did you get for your S2? I wanted to do the same, but I think I priced mine too high

Pretty happy to 7th out of 887 in the 10K last night with a time of 37:30. Surprising, given my lack of training, but I felt okay on the night and paced it as well as I could have. Based on my ranking it's safe to say it wasn't a particularly strong field of runners though with only two guys running sub-35.

After lap one you encountered the horde of around 1700 slower runners and spent the remaining 3 laps dodging and weaving in and out. Not ideal, but it probably only cost a few seconds here and there. It's a charity event aimed at fun runners so it's not the kind of place you aim to set a 10K PB really.

I started with a 610, Garmin refurb for $130USD, worked great. From a basic runnign perspective it is just as good as the latest models.
I upgraded to the 920XT for triathlons and Ultras. Now looking to go Fenix5 to get charging on the run for races over 24 hours. I woldn't normally bother but a Garmin rep can hook me up with a good deal

Never had a blister on my heal running for some reason. My Toes get mangled through

I was thinking of either a Vivoactive3, FR235 or maybe splash out for a 735XT. Not run it past the mrs just yet though. Also hoping for some deals or something to show up (Before London 2018 would be good)

Me and Blisters on the heel have been friends for years! Only ever on the right foot and it is due to an odd shape there I think. Taping always helps, along with Lanolin cream and all the usual stuff afterwards. I think this time i just missed properly covering the area that can rub. May also be new trainers but I have already done 40 - 50km in them with no issues so maybe not them :-)

I bought the Vivoactive 3 to compare with my Apple Watch with the end goal being to decide which i liked best. I think it'll be a great watch when the firmware gets fixed but as a Smart Watch it kept disconnecting from my phone and then reconnecting which caused a lot of Connection notifications (you can turn these off)

I think ultimately it's a great watch but i question whether it's worth £300. Given it's current software issues and lack of some smart features compared to it's competitors.

OUCH!

I use medical tape over my nipples, an absolute must here in the summer. Bet that shower hurt!

Did you contact garmin about the connection issues?

Good time for such conditions

Tried speaking to their helpline but didn't really get anywhere. In the end my choice was forced on me as i wasn't able to sell the Apple Watch as per my terms of the agreement and i was planning on those proceeds being used to pay for the Garmin.
Werid, Garmin customer service line is very good

I think it's purely to do with the software. From reading various reviews it looks like they're rushed it to the market to compete with the Fitbit Ionic and the new Apple Watch but left lots of bugs in the firmware.

I don't recall having any issues at launch with my old Garmin though.

It might be a hardware issue, which is worse. Garmin are very good at updating software, my 920xt is getting regular updates including most of the functionality of the newer watches (where not hardware dependent).

I want to get a Fenix 5 but I hear it also has some connectivity issues with some Ant+ devices like the Stryd power meter and garmin basically say they can't fix it. The 935Xt does have that fixed.
