Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

On my 3rd pair of Asics GT-2000 10, although starting to use different shoes a bit more now, at least once a week to keep them going a bit more
Didn't think the 2nd pair was wore out but after trying on another pair I realised the foam in the heal seemed wore out. The first pair I pretty much more all of the tread out on the heal before replacing.

Might have to pick up some more of them just in case

What are peoples preferred efforts? It's one area of running I can never get motivated for as it hurts :D but I guess probably does help when it comes to race day.

Recently been doing 1k's on and off, it's not pleasant by the end but not horrendous, did get some pb's yesterday in 400, half mile and 1k.

everyday is a race day - well I do alternate running days and swimming ... my GenZ (goal/socials oriented) neighbour had asked me what are you training for -
life ? I could have said cambridge isn't as inspirational as some places I've run, but it isn't the worst - better dayz

Jakob Ingebrigtsen produces an "unbelievable" performance to smash Daniel Komen's 28-year-old 3,000m world record by more than three seconds at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia.

Beating a 28 year old record in the 3,000 metres is very good going smashed it really aswell.

Up to 200 miles in my puma magnify nitro 2. Best shoes I've had for a long time. Can pick up the pace or slow it down easy enough. Grip is brilliant still, could go on dry trails in these I think too. My regular run takes me down a gravel footpath for a couple of miles and it's not done to much damage to them.
Think I'll get to 300 miles then relegate them to doss around trainers and get whatever the latest version is.
Changed Dr surgery so going to nip down see what they say about my foot, feels like planter faciatus but pretty sure it's not, strangely only have problems if I'm inactive for a few days (no stretching or running)
41 weeks to go to my first ultra and I'm only doing 6-7 miles for my long run at rhe moment, could do more but just building very slowly seen as I have the time to do so

Glad to hear you’re getting out. Least some of you are.
What’s the Ultra?

My attempted return to running has stopped due to Covid. Need to try and recovery before I restart that again. Annoyingly Covid seems to have caused a lot of muscle tightness in my calves which then creates more foot issues for me.

I've had a terrible summer. Family emergency and its led to a complete lack of training on my part; I've never really been in a situation where I've felt unable to run but its where I am at the moment :(. Total waste of a very promising year. I'd done ~3,000 miles by the end of June this year, and since nothing.

Need to find the mojo somehow.

Lakeland Trails 55k
There's a route albeit all road near me which 1300ft of ascent which totals around 12 miles so going to be aiming to have my first crack at that over the next few weeks. Being able to loop that a few times should be good prep for the legs.

With the what seems like a quick turn to darkness my head torch is certainly getting some use. Since moving house a couple of months back i have not managed to find my 2nd petzl battery pack so need to keep this one well charged.

Yup, most of my running at the moment is less than 5 miles just getting out most days to keep the legs going so weekly mileage isn't to bad. The course looks alright doesn't it, some of the courses up the lakes involve proper scrambling/climbing which i wouldn't fancy, if there's a chance of death then it's a no for me!

Nearly time for the Haworth Hobble entries to open. One of my favourite races, sells out v quickly. Lots of fun but exceptionally tough.

I might enter this one, heard about it but never done it. Are you local?

It'll fit nicely between the Pendle Way in a day (which I forgot I'd entered) and the Manchester Marathon.

No the wifes family is though, and it was the first ultra I ever did - a long time ago - so its kinda special to me. It'll be my 7th running :).

Hmm... the PWIAD is tempting..

Needed a challenge, have signed up to my first official race … 50km in March. The London Lea Valley Ultra.

Did a 50km without any training 3 years ago and managed 6:30 (was crooked at 13km but hobbling on for charity !)

Have ordered some new road/ trail shoes and am looking at training plans

Would be nice to get down under 6 hours . Might give the Runna app a go. Suggests I could get down to 5:08/5:25…!
