PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - Thread

Thanks for that.
Played 5 games this morning and it wasn't good. The first game seemed OK but there was a bit of lag. I finished 5th without killing anyone (in fact only saw 1 person in a car), and died whilst trying to battle lag and get into the end circle. The following 3 games were unplayable because of lag, it was as bad as I've ever experienced in an online game.
The last game was much better, almost no lag at all but I had to leave it as I had to go out.
So, is poor network performance a current feature of the game?? Is there anyway to see server stats and response times before joining a game??

I know there's been an update today which may have brought issues but the game has been rock solid in terms of network performance for the last month at least and I've been playing almost daily for a couple hours a time.

May be worth just checking you are indeed on the EU servers when you hover over Play in the top left.

Upgraded my CPU and now I get more stuttering. Not necessarily worse fps (it jumps around too much to measure) but definitely feels worse, especially in first person. Kinda sad really because I enjoy FPP, but it's too laggy and stuttery on my system now. :(

Went from i5 6400 to R5 1600. Overclocked to 3.8GHz and 2133MHz RAM to 2400MHz but it's not enough. I'm thinking it's possibly Windows 10 that's the culprit, it's my first time using it. Maybe I'll try going back to Windows 7 because I see no reason why upgrading my hardware would cause worse performance.

First person mode is where the game is at! Great fun, much prefer it to 3rd person peak fest.

what's your game stored on? one of guys in the ryzen threads posted about getting micro stuttering in games and turned out to be a setting needed turned off/on for his ssd - think it was a Samsung sdd in particular that was affected

you seemed to have missed out the most important points. how much RAM do you have? what is your GPU and what res/hz do you plat at?

i had issues with 8GB of RAM on my other system. put 16GB in and it was fine.

i can't play the game on my 2k screen so i use my 1080p

Everything stayed the same except CPU and motherboard so it makes no sense. 8GB RAM (my PUBG never goes above 5GB RAM), 7970, SSD. I didn't get amazing fps before but the stuttering was nowhere near as bad as it is now. I'm pretty sure it's windows 10's fault.

I have a Samsung SSD so would be interested to know what he changed

@gavinh87 hope you don't mind me tagging you in this but this may be related to your findings in one of the Ryzen threads re micro stuttering (or similar) with Samsung ssds. Thought it easier to tag you than try and find your fix in the myriad of posts.

8GB of ram isn't enough. The game has a memory leak. You will need to quit the game entirely then restart it again after every game. Or upgrade to 16GB.

Also I have heard that every time a new patch is released it messes with some people's systems. Just wait for the next one and see what happens

I've got two systems running on 8gb ram just fine here. I think it's just the quirks of every system with this game. However, both gpus have plenty of ram on them, that might be a factor too I guess.

I don't really get memory leaks. I have task manager open and it never goes above 5-6GB for me.

Hey, not at all. I've had a few issues with stutter but managed to resolve them. First thing was turning rapid mode on in samsung magician for my 850 evo. This helped a great deal but did not completely fix it. It seemed like an asset streaming problem and I thought my ssd was faulty.
I then got a nvme 960 evo - same thing.
Then I stumbled upon this thread - https://forums.geforce.com/default/...ps-drops-since-windows-10-creators-update/65/ 65 pages of people bitching at nvidia.
Since then I have installed windows 1607 (anniversary update) and blocked windows updates using this tool: https://github.com/Nummer/Destroy-Windows-10-Spying/releases

Since then I have had 0 issues with stuttering or frame spikes. MS has recognised the issue apparently.

How did you roll back to that version?

they may have fixed it then in one of the recent patches. i used to crash all the time. soon as i upgraded to 16GB in my older system it was fine. my newer system has 24GB of RAM and has always been running fine. your system may be reducing RAM allocated to the game i believe there is even settings within the ini files to limit ram, etc to the game. if your using ddr3 you can get another 8GB of ram for £35 off the members market it's worth considering. if your using ddr4 then it's considerably more expensive due to the memory shortages.

it could be to do with the fact your using an older graphics card. try using optimal settings from within your driver if you can. for instance geforce experience was recently updated with a profile for PUBG and i now use the settings it recommends and it runs perfectly now in fact it told to me even run quite a few settings a lot higher than i normally would with no detrimental effects on FPS.

Care to share?

the settings are specific to my GPU, resolution and hz played at.

1060 3GB playing at 1080p 60hz

AA - Ultra
Shadows - Low
Foliage - Ultra
View Distance - Ultra
Textures - Medium

this is what i can remember off the top off my head, however it is specific to my system. i can post the rest when i'm home @ the weekend but tbh i don't see how helpful they would be tbh unless you too play at 1080p on a 1060 3gb.
