PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - Thread

I've been watching Stonemountain64 play it for the last week or so and have really enjoyed it so i bought it on Saturday. However i think my PC isn't quite up to it as its quite choppy and basically unplayable. After an hour i decided to just get a refund and wait for either better in game optimisation or for my PC to get better...

PC right now:
AMD FX 8350
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
8GB RAM
Xfired R280x's

I'm yet to clock either the CPU or the GPU's though so that could improve things? I need to do some benchmarks before and after clocking and see where that puts me. :)

the game isn't optimised at all just now but its coming soon!

I see that they have just tweeted that they've passed the 1 million copies sold mark.

Not bad for a game which was supposed to drop like a stone after the first weeks hype had passed ;)

Not that it really matters now but were you running it all on low and getting choppy?

For some reason all on low I get 10fps with a 3930k and 7970. Push textures, view distance to high I get 65fps. No idea why but certain low settings seem to put the strain on cpu rather than gpu.

To get more fps in any modern game these days, you have to run at max graphics settings, people get confused thinking that lower graphics settings give you more fps, thats wrong for most games now, you want your gpu to be working hard, and not your cpu.

See that just doesn't make sense (not saying it's wrong) why would lower settings push the load to the CPU? Surely it should just be using less of both .

To be fair I always thought lower load would equal more fps. Guess not :D.

Lower graphic settings on older games deffo meant more fps, thats because most were cpu dependant more, now its the other way around, but some games seem to still be cpu dependant more than gpu, im thinking the UE4 based games like Squad and this game, but i have read a lot in the past on a lot of forums, where guys have said i get low fps even on low settings, and people say make sure your using high graphic settings, and that gives them more fps, strange i know, but thats how it is, i dont know why its that way really.

At low settings, games uses less GPU than CPU. When you increase the settings the game uses more GPU power, equals improvement in fps.

Ahh fair enough. I shall have to have a play in other games I'm struggling with then. A whole new world :).

Thanks for the correction :).

Playing to win. Ok we all like to win at games, I like to jump at hot spots grab a weapon or beat someone to death. If I die within a few minutes then I can restart quick. I've just played a game and it's jump where it's quiet next to a car. Loot in the middle of nowhere and rush to the centre of the circle hopefully avoiding everyone and just camp in the middle. Now that's boring as hell to me it may be the best way to win but my god I have just spent the last 10 minutes covering a door with a shotty. SO what's your play style?

Two 2nd place finishes in Solo and we had our first team win last night, even though I died quite early on it was great.

When your in that last two and the circles tiny and you can't see the guy, its just total panic!

Agrrrr damn ittttttttttttt.

Final circle was tiny, 2 left in an open field where I hid in a bush... Could see everything... Then to my left heard foot steps there he was sneaking looking the same direction I was... I stupidly scoped in nailed him but couldn't get the last shot, he spun round and did me.... Devastated..... Was shaking for a good half our after haha

Love this game.

Is the optimisation really that bad then? I thought it was just my aging hardware...

I kind of left it set to the defaults which were high but not the highest iirc. I'll do some overclocking and then maybe in a couple of months i can update the GPU's. I'd rather go back to a single more powerful card i think.

Yeah it is. My rig is in my sig and even though it does run at a solid 60fps on high/ultra - there are a lot of FPS drops with little to no VRAM utilisation.

And if you drop everything to very low which is logical for aging systems - it then relies on CPU too much lol

I have mine running smooth now but its a delicate balance between CPU and GPU until the optimisation comes in

enjoy the game ;) its doing well at moment hypes behind it.will it continue to do so or be developed you just cant tell dayz made 4 times as much look at that POS now.does seem fun though and many are enjoying it.

as to the guy saying hes made 25 mill no he hasnt.there is a team there is all kinda stuff.its sold well though for a pc title with little promotion apart from players/youtubers/streamers.

steam for a start take 30 percent of the sales before they even sold.then there is the team hes been working on it for 3-4 years.

That's how I've had to train myself to view this game. I'm never going to win but I enjoy playing a quick blast, seeing if I can get some good gear and kill at least a few people before dying.
Once I die, I go back to the main menu and I'm quickly into another game doing the same again.

It's just so tense creeping around! Never had it from another game. Playing in a squad is different again as I'm a bit more gung-ho.
