PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Re water cooling, I can't imagine it being *that* portable / shippable

Consoles may have shifted from what they were, but they should still be "take round a mates house" quite easily

Thanks for all the replies. I will play it some more tonight, fingers crossed it's just installing from disc.

I cannot hear anything from mine, it is well ventilated maybe that is the reason? Also, you do need to install game from disk so it will make noise during this process, unavoidable.

Ridiculous saying this has a noise problem, it just doesn't, if yours has check if you've put it in a spacious area, if so get a replacement.

To suggest most any PS4 is quiet is ridiculous to be honest, this one is no different, where I have mine has plenty enough air and I've even made sure by having a fan suck air into the area and push out the hot air the console produces.

Fact is the PS4 has always had a noise problem and a quick search online will show you tons of people complaining about it, Sony hasn't fixed that issue with the Pro. Digital Foundry even mentioned this and that the Pro is still a bit too noisy.

Have you heard an XBOX One at load compared to a PS4? I prefer the PS4, and design wise it's no contest too, but the XBOX is quiet in the same type of space but non of the two standard PS4's I've had or the Pro come close to it.

Maybe your too far away or a bit deaf, my father is an audiologist, maybe I can get you a checkup. ;)

This was what I was saying before release, but "the word" that got around was that games needed to be patched, which didn't make sense to me being a programmer, yeah patched to increase 30-60fps perhaps, I get that, makes sense.

Yeah thats my thoughts exactly, its literally just executing the same code with better hardware so it should run faster. Changing frame cap would need some editing (minimal I would guess). Be interesting to see what more games do, I will likely pick one up as my PS4 is close to dead, just going to stall it out and see how long I can last.

If you can setup an Jap PSN account, the new Final Fantasy 15 demo supports PS4 Pro. So I be giving that a try tonight on both of my systems.

Yes, slower gpu and cpu requires less cooling and therefore produces less noise - thanks for confirming this amazing fact we had no idea about.

Amazon fire TV is a gaming console as well and produces 0 noise so maybe xbox didn't do a good job after all?

Do you have ps4 pro? Mine is quiet and yes, my hearing is fine, thanks for asking.

The hardware is throttled back to approximately PS4 performance levels by default.

So a 'patch' may be just flipping that bit to tell the system to run at full speed.

Why would you want to do that as a default? Seems weird unless I'm missing something. I assume all games have the frame rate capped so its not like a game would suddenly run at 60fps when its meant to only work at 30fps.

On console with fixed hardware there are some assumptions you can make that devs take advantage of when they know precisely what cycles are available and the timing of them.

Games written for PS4 were never written to deal with much faster hardware and some of them will probably break if you just ran it on the Pro. It's a QC measure really, you can be pretty confident that the whole game library will run fine on the PS4 pro throttled to mimic a PS4.

In order to use the Pro hardware, you gotta patch it. Even if the patch is just flipping one bit and putting it through QA/certification to say it works fine.

Really want the Pro however the one thing holding me back is noise? Noise is the reason i sold my original release PS4 even after reapplying the thermal paste. It ruined the immersion so much while playing the last of us and uncharted.
Is it possible if any owners could say if there PS4 Pro is loud, quiet or anything between. It is a massive deal breaker for me.
Thankyou

Mine is LOADS quieter than my launch PS4, which is awful. It's why I got a pro. When the disc spins is about the only time I can hear the pro. Go for it

Wouldn't it be logical to assume that because the games weren't written for ps4 pro and also did not expect one to come out - there will be no throttling of faster hardware embedded in the software? At least for old titles. Obviously the games were written to run optimally on the slower hardware but why would anyone add bits of code to say that it cannot use maximum power available and only will use say 1.8ghz instead of 2.3 GHz. You will need to specifically code for this and how would devs do that if they didn't know that this scenario would ever happen? HDR, higher res and other details is one thing but to me that whole hardware throttling scenario sounds more like rumour someone made up rather than a fact.

The games won't look any better or run at higher fps but if a game that was locked at 30fps dips to 25-29 every now and then because cpu/gpu couldn't keep up then running the game on hardware that can keep up and is of the same architecture should automatically bring results.

I think the information that "games will not take advantage of ps4 pro unless patched" as in "no increased res/ aa/ hdr/ fps" was misinterpreted and turned into "hardware will be throttled".
