***** PlayStation Vita Official Thread *****

Sony have announced a new firmware will be coming for the Playstation Vita next month, anyone have any details?

Can you link the announcement?

I hope it fixes the problem of games disconnecting from servers if the Vita goes into sleep mode while in a game for one

Maybe more customisation for the icons would be cool

And Near seems broken to me. Im not sure but every time I launch near and update it alwats adds 5 more people in my area. Everytime theres 5 more people added every hour??? Odd and broken I guess. I also seem to recieve a lot of foreign Gifts through Near lol

Oh and Vita PS1 support hopefully :) I like being able to play FF7 and MGS in remote play BUT Id like to take them with me :)

It wasn't an announcement per se, the developer of the Pixeljunk Games was asked about Pixeljunk Monsters PSP not being Vita compatible and he came back with

They are ‘enabling’ it with a firmware update in April

People in those kind of positions tend not to say things like that on twitter unless it's happening because every news outlet will pick up on it.

Hopefully enabling some PSP games won't be the only content of the firmware. They need to keep adding new bits here and there, streamlining the interface more.

EG. When I boot up Motorstorm, don't tell me to wait three times while you sign in and stuff, let me get on with the game and sign in in the background.

I have to say though, the general OS is better than the PS3s already so with a few tweaks here and there it's going to be superb.

Not better in my opinion. You have already given an example where it is worse (not "seamlessly" connecting to PSN!). The interface is good, but even with Touch it feels slower to me than XMB.

I feel like I have to press so many on screen things to get simple stuff done. Everything in the OS is an "app". Even Settings is an app. If I press settings, or trophy list, or PS Store etc, I don't really want to press it a second time before it launches! I understand why Games work like that but systems functions shouldn't. Also I don't really want to be forced to use the touch screen. It would be nice to just press "X" to enter a lot of menus/apps.

Hopefully some of these things will change, over time.

Could they of made it like that to save on battery life and RAM though?, since it won't be cached all the time

Totally agree with everything mentioned here :) But I am really happy I got one in the end.

Im trying to decide what game to get next. Unit 13 demo was okay but I'm not generally a fan of shooters.

as mentioned above, surely the os uses apps to save battery/ram? if every app was constantly running it would kill your battery and slow the vita down. just think about when you have multiple apps open on your smart phone it kills battery and slows down the phone.
ive had no problem with it, it tells me when friends are online even if i havent got the friends app open and me and my brother play unit 13 co op almost every night and have no problem finding each others games and chatting at the same time.

It is possible that some of it is to save Memory, and I agree for Games/Browser. I just don't think stuff like Settings should be an app. When system apps are paused/suspended I would have thought they use the same or only marginally less RAM as the state of that app has to be saved somewhere (presumably RAM).

Even if they are apps, I just don't like touching and tapping the screen so much!!! they could stay as apps and use the x button to activate and it would suit me fine. Navigating Settings is a pain without D-pad and action buttons imo, although I appreciate most people do not go into it very often (I sometimes have to go in and tell it to connect to wifi).

Anyway they are minor gripes, I am very, very happy with my purchase. I use it every single day on my commute and i am even using it at home instead of my PS3 (Probably because all the games are new and I don't have anything new on PS3!!)

Which ones do you have already? Virtua Tennis and Lumines and Motorstorm take up most of my time.

Ok FINALLY! just picked up my VITA 3G, However I want to get a 32GB card which will be coming in a few days. Can I play any games at all with no memory card? Or will it not function at all?

Thanks

Anyone else having issues with the battery? Mine seems to run flat if I leave it for approx 2 days without using... I'm wondering if it's something to do with PSN/Near auto updating?

Getting annoyed with Bluetooth turning itself back on when the system is turned back on after I've disabled it in the settings.

If you're leaving it in standby that sounds about right, make sure you are turning it off properly by holding the power button and selecting power off.
