Plusnet Discussion Thread

Just set up plusnet fibre after making the switch from BT Infinity 1...

I had no problems with torrent traffic under BT even though I was on the old plans with traffic management. However with plusnet installed I am getting some terrible speeds. I'm downloading the official ubuntu torrent and getting speeds of 20-40KB/s.

Well after 3 weeks and 3 engineer visits, my connection is now running at something resembling the speed it's supposed to. Hats off to the Plusnet staff monitoring their forum. I think I'd still be waiting for a result if they hadn't stepped in and got me the engineer that was actually good at his job to come round yesterday. Apparently pouring hot water down a manhole works wonders! :)

Thanks for that.
Plusnet shows that I am getting 69Mb download yet that BT wholesale test that I ran get 46Mb.

I'm going to let my router stay syncd for 5 days and see if it improves, if not I'll go through forum support.

line is still slow but reading the forums I followed this:

Sadly the ECI issue is well known about by end users, but ISP and BT are still blind and/or ignoring the problem.

Only option would be to get a HG612 and flash firmware to SP08 or buy a vdsl router/modem that supports G.INP. Once you have a modem/router that supports G.INP and you can see it enabled on the line (correct sync and/or modem stats showing

INP (DMT symbol) 46.00 47.00

Then you would have to call plusnet and ask them to reset the line speed profile. I had the issue first morning the modem/cab correctly implemented G.INP, but ISP profiles/speeds appear to be broken or not working correctly as a side result.

I have flashed my HG612 to f/w sp08 (links within the thread) and my line has gone up to to 66MB from 45MB. It's still not at the 76MB I had it before so can Plusnet reset the line speed profile on their end?

I have no idea what this G.INP is but for the 3 years I was with BT I never had a problem with my download and uploads.

ok they have done a reset and now speeds are back to normal (a couple of MB out but hopefully this will now stabilize and increase whilst my modem/router stays syncd)

Just got switched on with plus net this morning. My BT line expired late last night I rang PN this morning and now I'm back on. Must say the guy on the phone was very helpful.

+1 for their CS, it is so much better dealing with a human than BT's Indian script jockys. Their forum support is great too when it comes to fault finding and resolving issues. Only con is around 10 mins waiting time before you get to speak to a rep, but the call is free so it's a moot point.

Anyone experiencing a major drop in d/l speed during peak times? I'm getting some really bad results. Downloads are crawling. I never had this issue before, seems to be recent.
