Plusnet Discussion Thread

Username for the PPPOE is [email protected] and the username & password are the same as the ones you signed up on the website with.

Assuming you're already on fibre with BT, the only thing you would need to change is the username and password on the PPPOE settings on the ASUS - everything else such as firewall rules should continue to work fine.

Cheers :)

Is this normal? Upload speed has dropped 8mb since I first got plusnet.

Migrated over in the morning.

Are there any other "special" settings I need to enter into my router (Asus AC66U) other than username and password to get potentially faster and more stable connection?

Just had my fibre installed and only seem to be getting 29mb down when i was informed i could get up to 79mb. Upload is ok though at 20mb. Is this normal once its first installed?

You should see full speed from day-one. The speed then tends to drop as it finds a stable connection speed.

If you're testing using a wired connection and getting less than the minimum you were promised then report it.

Openreach Engineer turned up this afternoon to install fibre. He then had to disappear out again as he hadn't been told I was going from cable to fibre and bringing my number with me. Came back and started setting things up. He started running the speed tests and was only getting ~30mb down and about 6 or 7 up. The checker told me I should get around 60mb. He thinks there's a fault on the line (already!).

He ran out of time this afternoon so is coming back first thing tomorrow. He says he may replace the line from the pole to the house as that's an old style that's been there since the 80's, although he's still not sure if the fault's there or if it's from the pole to the cabinet (or somewhere else entirely).

Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Glad my VM connection isn't being disconnected until the end of the week.

Openreach engineer was back here at 08:00 today, and didn't leave until about 14:30 apparently. He's changed the wire from the pole to the house, and also brought a colleague with him to help. One of them also went to the cabinet to check something there.

I'm led to believe, though I haven't checked yet, that whatever they've done has fixed the fault.

I'm still running on my VM connection at the moment as it's not due to be cancelled until the weekend. The BT modem is plugged in and sitting there. Should give it time to settle down a bit and work out what its stable profile's going to be.

Fingers crossed :)

Just had fibre installed and our estimates were 80/20 as we're only about 100m from the cabinet.

It was installed about 2hrs ago and we are currently getting 5/18.5. Is this normal and any idea why the uploads have synced at a decent speed but the downloads haven't?

It isn't usual. You'd expect the speed to start high and then drop to a stable level.

Do you have another PC you can use to test the speed? Third-party security software can produce strange results that often aren't noticeable on slower ADSL connections.

If you're sure it isn't a problem on your LAN and you aren't seeing the minimum quoted speed when using a wired connection then report it.

Yeah I'm using my own router so I plugged in the plusnet supplied one and got the same results.

I've also tried the speedtests on my phone and my brothers pc which is wired too. Same results on all 3 devices.

Edit:

All good now, they me restricted to 5MB for some reason.

Finally got round to plugging my router in to the BT modem and running some tests. Unsurprisingly there still seems to be a fault on my line, even after two engineers were round on Tuesday and they supposedly replaced the wire from the pole to the house.

BT checker says I should be getting around 64Mbps, but I'm actually getting around 29Mbps :(

I've plugged the modem directly into a PC and switched it off and on again (in true techie style), but it's consistently doing the same speed.

I've now raised a ticket, so I guess it's time to play the waiting game.

ECI or Hauwei?
Do you know the make of your local FTTC cab or happen to have a picture of it?

Thanks.... you mean the green cab down the road ?
Modem is Hauwei I believe it's tricky to get to, I'll check later

I've ordered Plusnet Unlimited Fibre, should be setup early next month. But I forgot to use Quidco for cashback, is it possible to claim it retrospectively?

Definitely worth a shot raising a claim with quidco, specify it wasn't tracked
