Plusnet Discussion Thread

Well I was going to leave for the BT deal but PlusNet just offered me their 80/20 for what I was paying for 40/2 so I've gone with that. Saves me the faff of moving providers and what not and ive got a way better package!

Anyone know how long it takes for the change to activate and you get your new speed?

They didn't try to keep me, well they did. Offered their 36mb service for the same price that I was paying for the 80mb. I switched to BT. Shame, I've had great service from them.

Guys on PlusNet with their IP starting with 51 what's your connection like ?...seems it has serious issues

It's not just the 51 ip range, been an ongoing major service issue for over a week now.

Big thread over on their forums about it and their staff are clueless and just don't listen.

Got the price increase email as well. I wonder what deal they will give (poor one I expect) no really good deals about any more.

Anyone used vodafone BB good deal for current customers.

Any other good deals about.

It was terrible, pretty much unusable. After resetting the modem a few times I'm now on the 209 range which is better but not perfect.

The IP's showing users being US based is really poor from Plusnet, causes so many issues with things like online shopping / banking.

I thought I was still on the 40 / 20 service but looks like they snuck me on to the 40 /10 service (as well as resetting my contract to 18 months) when I moved house last year. My line can't do over 10 upload anyway but means I won't be upgraded to the new 52 / 10 service.

Time to start looking at broadband deals.

Anyone here got a TP-LINK Archer VR600 as a combined replacement for TG582n and BT modem

Funny you say that! I have been through this thread yesterday and looked around on kitz for a replacement for my TG582n as it was crashing when under heavy load. Didn't want there hub so wanted a third party one. I always had a draytek router with dsl and that was miles better. hated this TG582n from the start, but worked fine for about 3 years!

I seen the VR600 all in one (dsl,fiber,3-4g) in the kitz post (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14436.135.html) in the last post. Good information on there. Someone listed them all.

Got one from rainforest this morning. All works fine so far. Set it up, updated firmware, job done. Easy to setup really. Was thinking with firbre there would be loads of fiddling, just needed my plusnet user and pass. ;)

Its only been a 2 hours, but seems ok so far! Ask me in week :D.

Is anyone with plusnet or similar and not on fibre broadband? I'm getting a new build house next month and fibre isn't available in that area yet. 'Best' I can get is 17mb unlimited. Just want to know what non-fibre performance is like. I know it depends on how busy the exchange is and how far from it you are etc.

Mum is with PN and normal ADSL, seems decent enough when I visit.

Decent enough for streaming you'd say? Going to be using Netflix 4K etc a lot as don't watch a lot of standard TV.

Only me in the house so won't be getting throttled in that sense, just depends how true their unlimited is.

As long as the connection speed is sufficient then I don't see why not.

I been using this router since May (Bought from MM) and so far so good. :D

I'm also on the 80/20 PN package but can only sync at 50-55/18.

Whether it's because of my crap line, or because this router uses a Broadcom chipset and my cabinet is ECI, who knows, but ehhh whatever, it's been very stable and I've not had any issues with the hardware yet. ;)

Oh dear. Quite shocking really :( if that's download speeds I'd hate to see what the uploads speeds are like. Just checked Plusnet again with my postcode and I get the same. Not sure how I got up to 17mb first time around. Not really sure what my options are now as don't want to pay for such a slow service. 4G dongle till they can provide a better service maybe.
