Plusnet Discussion Thread

I'm thinking of switching from Virgin to Plusnet, I also have an Asus AC68u router which I would want to use, I also have my old BT Infinity modem from when we used to have that, will I just use that?

What needs to be configured my end regards the BT modem and plusnet?
You configure a PPPoE connection on the router. Simple enough.

just take there modem it's free and works well .I just plugged in all the cat5's for the pc's and away it went .. just use the wifi for the phones and printer .
all gig ports :)

My PlusNet contract expires on 06 November. If I sign up with say BT and set the activation date for 07 November, will that ensure a seamless transition with no early termination penalties?

Please tell me the reason you are leaving is purely cost (Deal ending). My Plusnet goes live on Monday!

Speak to retentions, they gave me a better renewal than BT offered.

I can try, but their line saver rental makes my amortised cost more than Sky, BT, TalkTalk and Vodafone are offering.

The current PlusNet Fibre Extra offer for new customers is ~£5/month more than all of those other providers, without taking cashback into account because I won't get that as an existing customer.

Back to my original question. Can I set my activation date with a new provider for the day after my PlusNet contract expires without incurring penalties?

Isn't BT's 'Superfast Fibre 2' @ £45.99/month equivalent to Plusnet's 'Unlimited Fibre Extra'?

I'm not sure. PlusNet's Unlimited Fibre Extra is the package I need to get more than 36mbit.

This is the package that BT offers me when I type in my phone number and post code:

If you can only get 55/10 then BT's offer looks good (assuming nothing goes wrong with the cashback).

I get 62/18 with Plusnet. BT doesn't even offer me the option of anything above their 52/10 package.

The "average speed" stuff is fricking annoying. Just tell me what the package is capable of because this is more confusing than the way they used to be advertised!

It isn't accurate for me. Here's a comparison against my router stats:

That's impressive! I know the BTW checker can sometimes be a little under but I've never known it to be that far out. Going from what is expected though and what you are getting I certainly wouldn't be looking at anything more than a 52/55Mb service. I doubt you would see any gain in going over to 80/20.

Yeah I agree. As far as I can tell, BT are the only ones offering a 52mbit service so I was forced to go with PlusNet's 80/20 service last time in order to get more than 36mbit.
