Plusnet Discussion Thread

I am considering choosing Plusnet Unlimited Fibre (from Be ADSL I was only getting 4Mb down) and also changing our landline provider from BT to Plusnet

Do you need to inform BT when changing landline provider or will Plusnet take care of that? Or do you need something like a MAC for phone lines, too?

Also I will "only" get around 36Mb down and 6Mb up on this line - is the only real way of fixing that having a new phone line installed/moving closer to the exchange?

You will only need a MAC key for your broadband. Normally when you transfer home phone it takes 10 - 15 working days to complete. We will send a transfer notifications to your service provider and the line with BT would be ceased once the transfer was completed. Always good to check and make sure you are not in contract. BT are really funny about pulling up contracts on people out of nowhere. You should be able to retain your home phone number too :-)

Moving into our new house on 29th April, just put our order into plusnet and payed the line rental + setup fee, our engineer has been booked for 8th May, which I thought was a pretty good turnaround. Estimated line speed of 72Mbps down, 18Mbps up.

I shall provide an update with actual speeds when its completed.

Also placed my order last night and got my date for Tue 07 May 13 which is pretty good. Really looking forward to moving on from my current 3 meg download speeds!

Exactly the same mate :D bye bye 2 mb sky adsl! My engineer is arriving on the 8th May in the afternoon, checker says 58 down and 20 up so well be well chuffed if I get a steady 50mb

Anyone know how to setup static DHCP/IP's for devices in the standard router - Technicolor TG582n?

If you log into the tg582n
192.168.1.254

Select the home network tab -> devices

there is a task which you can select, "assign the public IP address of a connection to a device." you can also assigned the DMZ and port forwarding is accessible by "choosing assign a game or application to a device"

Seriously thinking of cancelling my order with Plusnet.

My order went through on the 20th of May, engineer was booked for the 4th of April.

I called Plusnet on the 3rd of April to explain that my router had not been delivered, no worries I was told, we will get one in the post to you today, while the guy was on the phone he informed me that for some unknown reason my order had been cancelled.

It's now over a month since I placed my order and every time I call them to find out what's happening no one is any the wiser.

Have you tried posting to the official Plusnet forums? Normally someone there will take charge of your problem and sort it out.

That is my next plan of action, like you say hopefully they can get it sorted.

I have had a quick read of the forums and it does look like I am not the only one.

I do believe the problem either lies with Open reach, or it's Sky playing funny games.

Sometimes the order can be stuck with openreach and we may have to raise a bridge case to get the problem cleared. There is no reason the order should have been cancelled though, an order can be cancelled by the losing provider is the customer informs them they are not moving.

community.plus.net is full of information and is really useful also those guys can take a look at your account and resolve any issues you post that way, which is really useful. I wouldn't be able to do that here :-(

Thanks for the reply, I have now posted on the plusnet forums.

A bridge case has been raised, I informed Sky that I was leaving to go to Plusnet a couple of days after placing the order.

Nice!! I measured out the distance i am from my cab to about 600 meters so if the max downstream is 80 and im predicted 58 would i really lose 22mb in speed being 600 meters away?

The prediction is taken from an average of the speeds in the area so it takes into consideration the lowest and highest speeds. This will vary a lot for customers, as you know they are just estimates and don't always reflect the true speed.

My prediction on the ADSL checker 15.6Mbps. The uplift for my cabinet is 4.24 so based on the current speed I'm getting that would make it around 28Mbps. If I get nearer that I will be happy.

How are people finding Plusnet?

Anyone?

Plusnet are top of my list at the minute. Waiting to hear from my current provider what notice period I need to give.

Yesterday I would have said great, today I'm not so impressed, peer to peer and usenet both at a crawl and download speeds elsewhee very intermittent...

Have posted in forums but no response so far, hoping it's just some teething issue as it's only my second day with them!!!
