Plusnet Discussion Thread

It normally takes 10 days for the line speed to stabilise due to the dynamic line management control at the exchange just like with an ADSL connection. It monitors the activity on the line over a set period of time in order to set the maximum stable line rate.

That I was expecting, however downloads crawling along at 15kb I was not!

Seems to be ok this morning but we shall see.

Im on BT Infinity , i pay line rental and have my calls with them as well, i want to continue the calls and line rental with BT , and just have fibre with plusnet.

Can you do that? or do you have to have calls rental and fibre with plusnet?

There is something wrong at 15kbps that's well below normal, first you need to setup a PPPoE connection with your openreach modem. Connecting an ethrnet cable between lan1 and your computer. You need to open network and sharing centre. "set up a new connection or network" -> "connect to the internet" -> "broadband (pppoe)" -> enter your [email protected] and your account password. It may not connect straight away if you simply pulled the plug it can take up to 10 minutes for the exchange to see the connection drop and won't allow another session until that happens. Run a speedtest at speedtest.btwholesale.com and if you are still having problems you can raise a fault at faults.plus.net if that resolves the problem we will need to RMA your router for you.

You can have your phone service with whomever you like and just have broadband or FTTC with us, however there will be a £25 setup fee for fibre if you are not moving home phone to us.

Waiting on the phone now, 20mins and counting to cancel our order.

I am going to stay with Sky.

edit: order cancelled.

I am very sorry about the provisioning issues with your fibre broadband and that you had to cancel the services, unfortunately sometimes we do have issues placing the order with the supplier and are unable to continue until they are able to resolve the problems. :-(

There is still time the engineer will turn up so fingers crossed. Sometimes the engineers can be late due to provisioning issues. Yes there is a large shortage of engineers at the moment so if you have a degree in telephony engineering it mite be a good job for you ;-) it has too be 2 hours to be classed as a late appointment but if it overshoots by an hour or so give us a call to our order updates department and we will find out what is happening.

Just got my fibre installed. Just wondering do speeds increase after a bit? I know it settles to find the best stable connection speed but just wondering if they can go up as well as down?

The test from the BT openreach engineer gave an 80 down and 17 up reading but according to speed test this is not what I am getting. I know it's still very early but from users experiances is it likely to improve? I'm probably less than 50m from the cabinet as well.

What speeds are you currently getting? You should be getting the full rate available on your line. Best to run speed tests connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Like KIA said it shouldn't need 10 days training with VDSL2 it should only take 24 hours for anything to settle really.

If you are still having trouble could you please do the PPPoE test described above.

Mine went up over the course of the following few days. I was advised I would get 50 down and 20 up but now after three weeks am getting well over 60 down but only 18 up. Not bothered about the upload speed it is silly fast anyway.

The router is connected to my PC with the ethernet cable. I had the data extension cable installed from the master socket which is downstairs so have the modem and router in my room. How can I see what speed my line is actually capable of? According to the BT wholesale website it is 80/20.

Curretly getting 73/14. I know it's not that much of a loss but I expected it to be much closer to the estimate as distance form the cabinet is not much.

Just wait for a few days. Plusnet will email you the speeds you are getting in a week or so as they will do their own checks as well. It is all very transparent and their service is impeccable.
