Plusnet Discussion Thread

Just signed up for my PlusNet Fibre well chuffed! Went through top cash back as well which hopefully will get me £36 :). Estimated speed is 56MB which going from my current adsl 2mb connection is a real nice increase!

I think I measured im about 500m from my cab so I guess that seems about right, i'll be happy if I can get 50mb stable for sure. Rang Sky and they said as im going from Sky LLU I didn't require a MAC code but after speaking to PlusNet they informed me I may be charged £50 setup fee. I didn't read the T&C's as to be honest im not to worried if I do indeed have to pay it due to the vast increase im going to be getting. Just curious if anyone else has transferred from Sky LLU to plusnet or even BT and been charged a setup fee?

I think I paid a £50 fee as well, let me check my emails.

EDIT

I paid £80 up front, not 100% sure what that was for though. I'm sure there was an installation fee of some sort though.

I entered my current landline number in when I signed up but didn't see anything about a charge unless it was in the T&C's. Just have to wait and see I guess. I paid £27 upfront which I guess is the 1st month cost then its £25 I think for 6 months then £35 after that

Cheers.

Graph looks good, already have a static IP which was easy enough to do. Spikes are where I've been downloading or streaming.

Anyone replaced the supplied modem and router with their own unit? If so, what are you using?

Just got plusnet put in and got 73 down and 17 up using the default router with in 10 mins of engineer leaving.

im going to put my billion 7800n back in later as i cba to set up all teh port forwarding again

Same mate! got mine being installed on the 2nd May and will be using my Billion 7800n. I was thinking of not bothering doing a factory reset on mine and just changing the connection type to the ewan port to save the hassle of resetting up the vpn settings and port forward etc

Open Reach chaps have been round today...for best part of 6 hours! Problems with line from cabinet to house...and from exchange to cabinet, so going to have to wait until tomorrow for it to be sorted!:'(

i ended up having to update the firmware on mine just now because i was only getting 50megs on the billion vs 73 on the plusnet router and had to factory reset it after updating firmware anyway so my plan failed :D

so just a warning if your on a earlier firmware on your billion i was on 1.06e i think

Thanks for that mate im currently running 1.06d so I guess i'll need to upgrade. How does the setup actually work with fibre? Is it RJ11 from master socket to BT modem the RJ45 from modem to EWAN port on Billion router then RJ45 from router port 1-4 to PC?

I'm on 1.06d on my Billion and get a little over 55Mbps (usually).

from what i read and i cant find where it was now :D there was a problem with the throughput or something not allowing it to go above 60ish which was solved on the later firmwares so if your not getting 80/20 you will probly be fine not upgrading

I am considering choosing Plusnet Unlimited Fibre (from Be ADSL I was only getting 4Mb down) and also changing our landline provider from BT to Plusnet

Do you need to inform BT when changing landline provider or will Plusnet take care of that? Or do you need something like a MAC for phone lines, too?

Also I will "only" get around 36Mb down and 6Mb up on this line - is the only real way of fixing that having a new phone line installed/moving closer to the exchange?
