anyone here experiencing some lag spikes on online games?

i play dota 2 and im getting an odd lag (gameplay skips very briefly happens about 2-3 times per game) even though the in-game pings are within acceptable range. 40-65 on eu server and 90-180 on us west/east. i did not have this while on TT

also idk if this is relevant to the problem but when i watched a live stream video it also skips

this happens on both routers n66u and the PN router using wired connection

Hey all. I am getting a bit fed up of my connection dropping every hour or so :(. I have to restart the router about 10 times a day.. I've tried the fault checker on the PlusNet website and did exactly what it suggested and so far they haven't got back to us yet.

Does anyone else have problems with the router PlusNet provided?

Get a TBB quality monitor on the go.

Tomorrow it will be 1 week since I put my ticket in, still no fix. But after googling the error 651 (plusnet support had no clue how to get passed the error).

I reset my TCP/IP and managed to get the modem to connect to the PC. It seems my router is killing my connection, as the modem is syncing at max. I added that note to my ticket and no reply.

I shall be on the phone tomorrow.

I've seen this sometimes Clairvoyant as a possible driver issue with raspppoe.sys and I've dealt with this problem before. Are you giving the modem enough time to disconnect the session from the exchange?

Got my engineer coming tomorrow. I'm a little confused by what the engineer actually has to do, our master phone socket is in a really inconvenient place right next to our front door where there are now power sockets in sight, is it possible for the engineer to move or extend the line to somewhere a bit more useful?

You would have needed to order the 30 metre extension kit when you placed the order for your fibre broadband. As far as I am aware it's a shielded and twisted RJ11 cable, easy to get hold of.

Ah bugger, well I guess I'm screwed then, I wasn't living in the house when I placed the order so I didn't know i needed the extension. I presume it's too late to get one now unless i can buy one from a shop tomorrow morning before the engineer arrives in the afternoon. :(

If you're lucky you'll get a decent engineer and they'll sort things out for you even without an existing order for an extension kit. If not it it's a fairly simple thing to do for yourself.

The extension cable I've seen used by BT looks like normal UTP Cat5e, but with only three pairs in the jacket. My two phone lines and the VDSL signal are all routed via a length of Cat5e from the master sockets downstairs to my office above. I did briefly have two phone lines and two VDSL connections all running over the same cable and it was fine.

Just make sure that as a minimum you've got a mains extension lead available to provide the two sockets the connection will need.

I'm hoping the engineer will be reasonable, I presume they must have a certain amount of cabling in their van anyway. If not I'll have to buy the extension lead myself, although given that the extension option is free I would hope the engineer will be able to sort it.
