Plusnet Discussion Thread

Hey Bulldog (who started this thread)....

First day after a BT Openreach engineer installed a box and modem, today and guess what speeds am I getting now...?

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2677159315.png

74.09 Download / 17.39 Upload with 9ms Ping!!

With Virgin Media, I get around 58Mb/3Mb (yes, 3Mb upload speed).

Plusnet's £10 cheaper than VM.

Goodbye VM!

Virgin Media uploads are currently 5% of the downstream rate they are currently being upgraded to 10% this is what has always made 80 / 20 so much more appealing to me and the network has a much larger capacity than VM's LLU equipment.

I'm getting the speeds below after my training period has ended.

Can peak at 75 meg

Ping seems a bit high though don't you think? Similar speed lines have at least half that ping

If your ping is high I would recommend running the speedtest.net in your computers safe mode, because I find that software / drivers and the general configuration of your computer system does actually have an affect on latency.

just got fibre installed and install engr was a cool dude for once
Transition from Talktalk was very smooth downtime was only about 12hrs

Ping is quite high but considering the distance(im near Derry) it travelled im not surprised lol Hoping the ping and upload will improve over time eitherway im happy :D

EDIT: How many days/weeks should I use the provided router before I swap it with my own ?

Can anyone help

Fibre got installed on the 19th April. Had speeds of 77/17 approx. About 5 days ago I had not internet, all the lights were on. Modem and router, showing all green. I reset the modem and router, a few mins later all was fine.

Today Wife had no wifi, so we reset the router, still nothing. I tried (via cable) no internet. I plugged the cable into the modem and set up connection, it would not connect.

I reset the modem and router, had wife and cable but at slow speeds. Did the BT sppedtest here are the results.

. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Download Speed
17.2 Mbps

0 Mbps 77.43 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 17.2 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-77.43 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.43 Mbps

2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

Upload Speed
0.87 Mbps

0 Mbps 20 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.87Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

17/0.87 not what I should be getting.

What to do next.

Do we just have to do this the day after its been installed or can we call up straight away once it's done?

Thanks for the heads up about this, what is the cap set to first of all?

Thanks matey

Marginally, depends on how much your upstream is increased by anything from upto 1 or even 2mbps in some areas, I'm not sure on the exact ratio but it will be decreased proportionally to the increase.

Somewhere in the first 10 pages or so in this thread suggested that there was no traffic shaping but a few of the later posts states it does.....so is the traffic shaping noticeable?
