Plusnet Discussion Thread

Mine has been the same the last few days.

My connection was a steady 68mbps and now it's about 40mbps... don't know wy it's slowed though???

Same here. I was quoted 70 Mbps which I've been getting for the 1st 2 weeks and then yesterday that was down to 30 Mbps. Hopefully It'll be back to normal today and it's not a sign of things to come.

What speeds where you quoted when you booked it?

Think it was 49mbps but for the last month it's been a rock solid (apart from second day teething problems) 68mbps!!

Tried it again this morning and it seems to be a bit faster hopefully it'll be back up to speed soon.

Was meant to be having PlusNet Unlimited installed today, engineer turns up at the exchange to notice a problem. be* have put a block on the phone line meaning it can't be switched over until it expires? So now have to go through the ordering process again and be without phone/internet for 10-14 days or whatever when our contract with be* ends.

Just what I need with exams at the start of June and all my learning material online :(

I have been connected since the 25th March and was estimated at 57Mbps. Since that time I was getting 68Mbps but over the last week or so it has gone down to 57Mbps.
I noticed on the BT Wholesale speed test / diagnostics that my line profile went down from 68Mbps to 57Mbps at the same time the speed dropped.
The connection is, and always has been, rock solid.

A bit sad really but I suppose I'm only getting what was estimated. I did read that it was something to do with the higher frequencies that FTTC uses and crosstalk building up on the line from neighbouring connections within the cabinet. Whether that is true or not I do not know but I have seen quite a few posts similar to my experience once the connection has been running for a few weeks.

Mine has been a stable 22Mb since being installed about 2 weeks ago. Quoted upto 16Mb. Very happy so far. Customer service seems good also and nice to have the call centre in the UK!

I've been with Plusnet for some weeks now and I am very happy with their service. Static IP is a bonus as well.

They charge £5 for a static IP.

Yes, it's been on since I had it installed. It's normally flat as a pancake at around 20ms unless I'm hammering the connection. My ping would be lower but due to my distance from the cab interleave is on my line, when it's off, I get some packet loss so I can live with it being on.

I get no evening slow down, I've never noticed any shaping at all, I can be gaming, downloading from usenet and the GF watching live streams and it's all seamless and without problems.

Mike306 is correct, static IP was a one off £5 charge, something I can live with.

I don't think I have? I was gaming last night and the GF was on Sky Go.

Saying that I've just looked over the previous few days and it's the same. Can't say I've noticed, you think it's something I should report or are they aware of it?

So earlier today i finally decided to take the plunge and ordered my fibre optic connection, im on the unlimited package and because im less than a 1000m away from the exchange, im looking at speeds of up to 76mb down and 19 up.

Enjoyed the conversation i had with the guy at plusnet and they seem very friendly, looking at the 13th of june for my connection to be installed. So hopefully fingers crossed it will go well without any issues.

Is there anything i need to do or ask about my connection so as to keep it running smoothly??.

Also any recommendations on which router i should go for??, i know they give you one and its probably a cheap generic one but id rather get one that has a lot of features in it. Dont mind spending £100 or so for a good decent fibre router, something that gives me great speeds wirelessly and wired.

TIA.

As soon as my MAC from Sky arrives (and I push it long enough to book 1st July as my install date) I will be ordering Plusnet Fibre.

I've not see static IP mentioned anywhere though? When/how/where can I add it to my order?

Getting Unlimited Fibre next week but I've got a few minor niggling concerns. I was hoping one of you could help with the one issue that's been playing on my mind tonight. Will I still be able to use the extension sockets to plug the house phone into? I want the master socket moved upstairs (or at least, I want the router upstairs) but the phone has to stay downstairs.

There's nothing to stop you using extension wiring for your phones.

Ignoring the fact that there's a separate modem and router it's very similar to a normal ADSL setup.
