Plusnet Discussion Thread

Any idea's on a good USB or PCI Wi-Fi adapter?

I have a Edimax USB Wireless N Dongle that only cost me 3 quid, but can only pull in 46mb on Speedtest.net

My line profile is 78mb...

Cheers

WNDR3700 full speed on wireless or wired never had the plusnet router told them i didn't want it don't send it lol No ISP seems to have really good routers to be honest.

Is a replacement router plug and play?

I don't want to fuss about with username and passwords, let alone IP addresses etc..

Cheers

You'll need to tell the router that it needs to use a PPPoE connection, and enter a username and password, but that's about it. Nothing difficult, and it's often handled by a setup wizard.

looking at these stats is it worth me asking PN to increase my downstream IP profile or will it not make a difference ? im not sure if any overheads are coming into effect here to stop it maxing out the 25mb, or am i simply getting as much as i should be ?

They can't do anything to increase the speed. It wouldn't be worth switching to the 80/20 package because the downstream sync isn't anywhere near the 40Mb/s max.

Just had my FTTC installed today and using an Asus RT-AC66U I am getting 57 mb down and 12 up. Which is 13 more down than I was estimated to get.

The setup was straight forward. All I had to was follow the Setup Wizard that opens when you turn the router on pick PPPoE and enter my plus.net username and password. It was then up and running straight away. The wireless coverage is a big improvement over the Draytek I had been using todate on ADSL.

What model Draytek did you have?

Been having a few issues with my PlusNet service recently.

Up until last week, I would get a rock steady 72Mb/sec download all the time. I then started to experience latency, which according to the guys at PlusNet Support could be down to the router I was using. They sent me another one, which seems to have helped with the latency, but now my download speed varies a lot. For example, in the space of 30 mins, I have seen from 25mb to 72mb.

So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why that is?

On a separate note, PlusNet support has been quite good so far, which makes a nice change from some other companies I could mention :)

Thanks.

i get this download speed variations as well when running speedtests
from 72mbps will go down to 30s mbps. Couple of minutes later it will gradually go back to top speed. No clue on why its happening. Doesnt bother me that much as i dont notice when doing normal stuff

I walk to the pathway today and saw there is five BT Openreach van installing fibre from the main road all the way to my cabinet box there. I spoken to Openreach men and they say new FTTC cabinet will be installing next week next to cabinet number 8 box there. He say the FTTC should be ready before November 2013. Can't wait to have Plusnet FTTC soon.

I took two photos today:

How far are you from the cabinet Bulldog? What sort of speeds are you expecting?

my cabinet number 8 is only round the corner of my house. Not far only 1 minute walk away from it. Should be getting full maximum speed 80/20 ;) BT estimate 80/20 Available Dec 2013

On my ADSL2+ I getting 15.8Meg.
