Plusnet Discussion Thread

Anyone moved from Sky FTTC to Plusnet FTTC?

Been looking online and want to get the best deal I can, or cashback etc

I know there used to be a problem with Openreach when switching form SKY FTTC to Plusnet FTTC. In fact, you had to cancel and get a new line.

I know they were rolling out a fix but I'd check this with both suppliers.

And quidco were doing a special offer £70 cashback but I think its back to £38 now.

Thanks for the info will keep a check on quidco

What's a decent, but cheap upgrade to the supplied router? I am sure it is causing drops when too many devices re connected and I would like a bit more wifi ooomph, as it does not reach the back of the house. Funds are tight though.

Plusnet Unlimited Fibre doesn't have traffic management does it? You don't need Pro add on do you for p2p downloading etc? seems a bit steep to me to pay an extra £5 a month to remove rate limits. As an Infinity customer at the moment I'd rather stay "unlimited without throttling"

It does have shaping. By default, it will only prioritise traffic. They are capable of de-prioritising non-time sensitive traffic when bandwidth is running low.

We have just had Sky installed today and the box is now also running off wifi from the crap router.

So that's one Sky box on wifi (which will get a lot of use streaming), one laptop, one tablet, two phones and my desktop (connected over powerline).

I assume this is up to the task?

Cheers. :)

Although the router isn't fantastic it should handle that

Yup. I'm on their unlimited fibre service. They proudly beat their chests about their form of traffic control. It's not a form of throttling as we've become used to avoiding; Plusnet essentially provide QoS.

Got mine installed today (2 weeks since ordering - not bad!) engineer said I'm synced at 80/20, supplied Thompson router decidedly crap but I can't afford a proper one at the moment. Fastest I've seen over Wifi so far is 20 odd down and 12 ish up.

BT Sport half price discount has been announced for Plusnet subscribers with a minimum 1 month contract. Seems like it is only for people with a sky box.

BT Sport - £5.99
BT Sport HD - £7.49

Was hoping for a free deal like what BT and Virgin customers get but seems like a good price so might consider it.

So you still need a sky box? Disappointing.

Is there anyway to get the line stats from the modem that's easy and works?

I have the ECI Modem B-FOCuS V-2FUb/r Rev.B
