Plusnet Discussion Thread

It's been 8 weeks since I ordered internet with plusnet now. At the first instance something went wrong with my fibre+phone order so a bt openreach engineer turned up only to set up the phone 2 weeks in. The 2nd appointment 2 weeks later was a no show and 2 weeks after that the same. I've got my 4th appointment for today so let's see if this actually gets done today.

Im having issues with them ATM , had fibre installed 3 and a half weeks ago and speeds have decreased ever since, started off on 30down 2 up , but slowly the speed decreased to 11down 1.8up , i called them and they sent an engineer out , he arrived on the saturday morning had a quick look and said "oh" plusnet have booked a telephone engineer and you actually need a broadband engineer......

Fast forward to tuesday after and the BB engineer turns up, he says yeah i reset the profile or summat blah blah blah and should be fine now and he buggers off, i do a speed test and the speed is exactly the same ! 11down 1.8up

called plusnet they said they can see the engineer didnt actually do anything and they will contact his manager...

so then gets a text from PN on saturday telling me they will change the profile on tuesday and if that doesnt fix it they will send another engee out, kinda getting pee'd off with it all already, ive only had decent fibre speeds for like 3 days out of over 3 weeks and they seem to be dragging their feet in fixing it :(

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having, sometimes we can remotely reset the line by calling openreach but normally it requires an engineer to remove any banding from the line.

I don't understand how we could have booked a telephone engineer in place of a broadband faults engineer as we use two entirely different systems for home phone and broadband faults.

Neither do I :(

EDIT: had a random disconection while at work and speed has jumped to 23.9down from 11Mbps , im kinda peeved about that actually because no doubt if some one comes to look at this line tomorrow they see its current speed and probably decide there isnt much of a problem with it, then no doubt it will drop back to 11 the day after........

just getting my mail for my activation date...13th August, ordered 2nd week in June :O but Sky are mainly to blame for this.

I ordered on 4th July and my activation date is 5th August. Im also migrating from sky fibre unlimited. I think the migration issues have been sorted now.

Ordered plusnet unlimited fibre on 23/7, engineer came round on the 31/7 and got a text from them 8 hours later saying it was good to go. Migrated from Be broadband and to be fair, was happy with them, but wasn't happy about going back to sky.

Been very impressed so far, cust. service etc. Will definitely be upgrading the Technicolor router tho!

Currently getting 44 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up, ping between 19-30ms (BTW performance tests) :)

I'm moving from BT but i done it on the 20th of july activation date is 17th of August. I thought it would be a lot faster as i'm fibre already :(

Moved to PlusNet so i just don't get lip service, hoping my speed doesn't suffer hopefully i have made the right choice.

Run the BT speedtest and grab the IP profile information.

Download Speed (Mbps): 4.33
Upload Speed (Mbps): 9.36
Ping Latency(ms): 46.00

How do I get the IP profile info?

I ran the diagnostic thing and it says...

has any one had interleaving turned off on their PN fibre ? asked mine to be done because gaming online feels slightly odd since changing to fibre

wont let me link without being signed in

but heres what it says:

Interleaving
Interleaving is used on our broadband lines to help ensure a stable connection. Where it is switched on it will be beneficial for most customers.

Interleaving will switch on automatically to avoid a line stability problem occuring or to remedy an existing fault.

For customers who regularly use online games or use VoIP telephones, and are concerned about their ‘ping’ time, the slightly higher latency caused by interleaving may not be desirable.

We strongly recommend that customers who have interleaving switched on, leave it on. However we recognise that some customers may prefer faster ping times over line stability.

If you have had interleaving switched on and wish to switch it off, confirm below that you understand that you may see more disconnections and that it will need to be turned back on before a fault can be raised.

This process can take up to 5 days to take effect but is usually provisioned by our wholesale suppliers within 24 hours.

You will be able to read our reply in the My Questions area of Help & Support.
