Plusnet Discussion Thread

Before placing the order plusnet advised I would need a MAC code to complete the transfer.
When I placed the order plusnet text me asking for the MAC code.

Rung BT last night and they insisted they can't 'generate' a MAC code as it was a straight fibre transfer.

Rung Plusnet just now and they insisted they can't complete the transfer without the MAC code!!

wtf - going in circles here :(

Pretty miffed with plusnet and they havn't even started giving service yet!!

First - despite me telling them I didn't have an open reach modem but one of the new BT Home Hub 5 modem/routers - they sent me a bog standard plusnet router ffs!. Their techies agreed it won't work....after 45 minutes on the phone!

Second - Someone cancelled my order at 5AM this morning, just pure lol's.

Think I'd better cancel and switch to someone else as its not been a good start at all!!

Well they've been great for me again. I had no fibre at all on Tuesday, phoned them up and the call was answered in under 5 minutes reported the problem to them. They phoned me back on Wednesday to book an Openreach appointment for Thursday morning and got my fibre restored. Something had died in the cabinet so the engineer had to do a 'lift & shift'.

I've called them three times so far.

1st time - 15 minute wait.
2nd time - 30 minute wait.
today - 15 minute wait - 45 minutes on the phone with one operator abandoning the call half way through and having to go through to another operator who eventually said he had to call me back.

not a good start, scheduled date was 17th to switch over broadband. IF they ain't sorted their own issues out by then, time to look elsewhere.

easy way - report this to ofcom

easy way - report this to ofcom

ofcom didn't want to know.

Plusnet screwed up my order by cancelling it for an unknown reason. They then sent me back to BT claiming they needed a new MAC code, BT said they didn't.

Plusnet then said they would need to provision my service, THEN send a BT engineer out to sort it all out - I just laughed. First they want to tie me into a service they can't provide (due to no open reach modem), THEN they want to figure out how to make it work. Absolutely pathetic.

Had enough and told Plusnet where to stick their service, and cancelled completely.

I tried to complain to OFCOM but they referred me to CISA to complain about Plusnet. OFCOM are just as useless too - said all they can do is a lodge a complaint for the sake of data collation (that they can probably sell on)

What a waste of three weeks - I'll never recommend Plusnet to anyone.

What the general consensus with Plusnet then guys? I'm looking for a new provider and these are looking good so far.

I've used them on and off from dial-up days without a problem, current FTTC connection has been running(good speeds) for over a year without any downtime. They are normally a decent, cheap ISP(with UK support who aren't afraid to engage on forums). Only current issue I can think of is longish waits on CS calls(they were OK early last year and apparently they are working to improve them). Here are the forums so you can do more research.

Been with them 11 months, very happy so far, dealt with any problems pretty quickly. As above sometimes it can take them a while to answer the phone but having UK based support is a good thing.

I don't know what they're like these days, but just to counter the "Plusnet have always been great" experience from @philip2009.

I was with Plusnet *years* ago. Back in the Max 8Mb/s days. Constantly sending letters saying that I'd gone over 20GB for the month and they'd cut me off at 30GB. Jumped ship as soon as BeThere LLU enabled the exchange for unlimited ADSL2 24Mb/s.

Probably a bit different now though :p.

Thanks, I use thinkbroadband to monitor my connection, three days of 80-100% packet loss and now an almost unusable connection, just about ok for surfing
