Plusnet Discussion Thread

Have OR attending tomorrow. I have a Huwaei Echolife HG612 2B that's gone orange and rather hot!

I also found this is not on my main socket, OR is sorting this for me as well. Hoping to get a V2 face plate as well.

Also my IP profile for what the DSL checker offers me is still not right.

I called PN who offered OR to attend within 12 hours, i'm impressed.

Not happy nor impressed. Bloke was a tool, defo needs tons of Prozac

After asking him to fit a new modem he finally did. A B-FOCuS V-2FUb/I Rev.B has been fitted.

He was unable to run any trace routes and has gone to the cab.

Said something about my line being to long with 20db on there.

Testing at the cab has shown no faults, stuck at 48 mb

I am now a Plusnet customer. Migration happened overnight. Quickly changed details on router this morning and opted to pay the £5 one off charge for a static IP. Will do some thorough testing tonight when i get home.

Its only less than a day, so will give it chance to settle, hopefully my DL will go up to what it was... ;)

Oh and heres my PN BQM...

My Broadband Ping

Can anyone give input on this.

About 10 days ago I changed my Openreach modem to the internal modem on Draytek 2860n.

I use to receive 59mbps down and around 14.5 mbps upload, however since changing the router i'm receiving 38mbps down and exactly 10mbps upload. All these speeds are connection speeds shown in the Draytek router. I've also checked with BT wholesale and my IP profile is 39mbps.

Some of this may be down to myself restarting the Draytek router to often, however there was some drop outs during the night not due to any reboot.

I've switched back to the BT Openreach router and speeds are staying the same.

I'm also receiving slower pings, doing some research this is possibly down to interleaving on the line.

The question, how long does it normally take to regain sync speed?

I spoke to PlusNet support yesterday and they had me connect a Windows 7 PC directly into the BT modem, this resulted in same speed I was getting on Draytek.

The only thing I can offer JasonM is once you encounter the wrath of the DLM, it's a long, rocky road to regain speed. If you can convince Plusnet it's likely due to your reconnects etc, they may just send an engineer to reset it. If it's due to a fault or errors over the line...

Well I'm on engineer visit number 10 and month 6 trying to resolve my problems :)

Oh and just a note on people seeing others encountering speed and sync issues, the problems are nothing what so ever to do with Plusnet. Plusnet are just a reseller of lines provided through BT Wholesale. Any fault will hit you if BT Wholesale are responsible for your line, regardless of ISP. From my personal experience at least Plusnet are quick to respond to any raised fault and pass it to BT Openreach if necessary. After that however...

We are having fibre installed at long last next week, after only having terrible 2meg ADSL.

Is there a better router anyone recommends? As I gather the included one doesn't do 5ghz?

Memphis, thanks for reply. From everything i'm reading it looks like once the DLM is engaged it takes some time to recover speed.

On a positive note, my sync speed has increased to 40000kbps (exactly) down and 12000kbps (exactly) up. Give these are exactly rounded figures it looks like sync speed has now been capped. Will keep the line stable and hopefully it comes back.

Plusnet did say someone would phone, but no phone call yet.

EDIT. Just checked my IP profile on BT Wholesale. It's reporting an IP profile of 38.72 mbps, how can this be as my Draytek router is syncing at 40 mbps.

Drop the PPP session and reconnect. Should update then. A lot of people don't realise that for the IP profile to update it needs a disconnect/reconnect.

Yes I recall reading about this. I did restart the connection, however IP profile never changed.

One thing i'm not sure about, I don't know if the Draytek is sending information it's a reboot and not a disconnect. I don't want to restart the Draytek to often in case it's causing the exchange to think it's a disconnect.

I do have a support ticket open with Draytek and will ask above after Draytek first responds.

EDIT. My speeds are going back up, the connection is automatically disconnecting and coming back faster. I'm now

Connected : Down Stream : 44000Kbps / Up Stream : 12000Kbps

All these numbers are rounded off like above. It's clear theres a cap at the exchange and the exchange software is trying to increase until it finds a problem again.

Looks like it is just the DLM. If you have the patience, just let it work itself out. If you don't, ask Plusnet to arrange an engineer to perform the reset.

Got rid of the technicolor router and stuck the trusty Billion 7800n in and the ping just drop :S

After a week or so of getting Fibre installed, my speeds have dropped considerably:

Should I bother ringing PlusNet and see if they could do something?

If you head over to the forums you'll see lots of similar posts bud. I was one of them and had exactly the same issue as you describe. End result - openreach came out and spent 3 hours doing 'tests' and pronounced that my new rate (16 mbs) down on what I had 3 weeks earlier was 'as good as you're going to get' and plusnets response was 'well if that's what the engineer said we're in no position to argue'. Not a happy customer tbh but hit a brick wall and, again, if you head on to the BT forums there's umpteen posts along the same lines. It just seems to be a really common issue at the moment. I'm going to try and get an unlocked modem to stop the disconnects on my line courtesy of BTAgent on my home hub 5 calling home and doing random downloads and disconnects. Not sure what else to try...so good luck!

I am afraid that PN is always less than BT/ADSL24/Sky on throughput speed probably around 1 Megabit off.

Mine here:

Hi all,

Just wanted to drop in and say I'll be taking a look at this thread and any other's regarding Plusnet on OCUK's forum every now and again.

I've had a lot to read through in this post so bear with me and shout up if I've missed anything or an opportunity to help anyone:

chaosophy - have your speeds improved?

Lisapete - how are your speeds

Mittens - Managed to move over OK or any issues I need to look at?

zoomee - really sorry to hear about your bad experience

bad_ass_neil - speeds sorted too?

JasonM and lisapete- have you got a ticket number? would like to do some checks for you.

All the best!

Has anybody got before and after tests for switching to a static IP?

Slightly faster response I'm finding!

Loving it as have setup a VPN from work to home and bypassing all works crap :)
