Plusnet Discussion Thread

Hi all,

Just wanted to drop in and say I'll be taking a look at this thread and any other's regarding Plusnet on OCUK's forum every now and again.

I've had a lot to read through in this post so bear with me and shout up if I've missed anything or an opportunity to help anyone:

chaosophy - have your speeds improved?

Lisapete - how are your speeds

Mittens - Managed to move over OK or any issues I need to look at?

zoomee - really sorry to hear about your bad experience

bad_ass_neil - speeds sorted too?

JasonM and lisapete- have you got a ticket number? would like to do some checks for you.

All the best!

Hello Adam

moved over, was very smooth .. did lose 8 megabits in the first month which I have attributed to me replacing a 3m decent quality dsl cable with a 4m questionable quality one, but the extra metre enabled me to get the router off the carpet as i was concerned about static etc.

decided to live with it.

thanks for asking buddy :)

Speeds fine for me now as well only lasted a day, i did have a fault later on with plusnets ip profile not matching my BT one so i was loosing out on 20Mb this has now been corrected and i am back up to a 60mb ish profile which is more of what i would have expected. when i signed up.

A fibre cab finally appeared at the end of my street around 2 months ago, and after checking several times a day on the checker since, it finally said available to order yesterday!!! I am estimated to get 68mbit which kicks the pants out of my current sub 3mbit connection.

I was wondering, will the BT engineer be OK with replacing the master socket onto the end of a high quality extension we had professionally installed, or will he/she make me use the master socket in the hall? This is in isolation away from any other room and the missus has forbidden me to have any cables tacked round the house...

Also, does the engineer connect things up to the router, or does he/she just do the modem installation? Not bothered either way I guess, I have a Billion 7800n that should just be a matter of changing the WAN connection mode to the ethernet port instead of the built in modem...

Great to see this thread is going strong. My 80/20 gets connected on Tuesday and I cannot wait. If it wasn't for the fact I got it for £14.99 p/m I wouldn't have bothered.

Had Plusnet fibre and can say hands down it was fab! Had to move and cannot get fibre in my area until next year so was considering Plusnets ADSL, anyone have any experience of their ADSL service?

Their ADSL service is superb! I've been using it for 12 months now and not had a single issue with the actual service. Had some connectivity issues, but that was down to the router I was using.

I was using their £1.99 BB package and their £4.50 phone package - Highly recommended

I've noticed over the last week or so I'm getting pack loss between 8pm-11pm which I wasn't getting before.

I'n not on that late, so not a massive issue.

However, have you tried a router reboot?

Disconnect and reconnect. If you want to look in to it more, find the section in the PN UserTools that show what gateway you're on, then jump on their forums and find the thread discussing the poor gateway performance at night.

Engineer booked for Plusnet fibre installation in two weeks time.

We have an existing extension socket leading to the master bedroom and would like to continue using this.
Obviously it will need to be replaced to function with the fibre router, will the engineer be able to do this and will it be at an extra cost?

Anybody with experience on this?

Since resetting the router after upgrading the firmware I'm not seeing the packet loss in the evening....so far.

Had Plusnet 76/19 unlimited fibre installed yesterday...

The download I'm happy with as I was predicted 45 but I'm worried about that poor upload speed.

I know they are 'testing' for the first 10 day so do I wait til then before calling or should I shout about it now?

P.S. Done several test over last 24 hours and never got about 3.5mb up.

Some will not move the master socket no matter how inconvenient it's position, mine did because there was no way of running the cable they try to fit to the place it needed to be.

My BT contract is up next month and I'm thinking of changing to Plusnet. Will there be an engineer call out when I changeover?

I have 57 mbps down and 14 mbps up with PlusNet

I would open a support call if your upload does not at least exceed 10 mbps.

All installed. Engineer was worked for Kelly Communications and even though he was nice, he wasn't willing to use my existing BT installed extension to get the data into the lounge, nor use the data extension kit as there was no clear route... Ended up getting him to leave me the data extension kit with everything by the front door :(

I then spoke to my BT engineer mate who told me how I could convert my existing extension myself. I did that - just 2 wires into the back of the faceplate. Took me 5 mins, and I lost no speed over it - no idea why he wouldn't do it, but ah well.
