Plusnet Discussion Thread

Upgraded our broadband package today, moved into my own place half a year ago thinking brilliant I can get good broadband! To be told it doesn't reach my house by a stones throw! Checked today and unlimited is now on order. :D

Can't wait if I'm honest, I was on 8Mbps in the country and now in a town I'm on 3Mbps!

Woah my bad. Seems like deluge, uPnP and my router were not playing ball, had a ton of sticky sockets and connections.

Had a play and I've turned off uPnP and am port forwarded instead. Getting the full 38Mbps on my torrents now. Nice but tbh I don't mind leeching slowly

BT have offered to match the £20 pcm deal. Apart from the 6 month offer, I can't see a reason to jump?

Well my contract ran out recently and I called them to see if they can match Sky, who have offered us a very good deal as part of our TV package, which had also run out.

Best they can do is £10.00 p/m for 40/10. I currently pay £20.00 for 56/17.

You had me worried... My install is tomorrow and currently on sky torrents are 4.4Mb/s on IPT. uploading is also quite nippy which is very easy to maintain high share ratio with minimal effort... hoping with plusnet on the 80/20 i would double that .

Are plusnet doing any traffic shaping? My infinity contract has expired and plusnet currently have a good deal at the moment.

As others have said it's QOS, not rate limiting, see here. I visit the official Plusnet forums, and a few others, and the number of people who've even mentioned QOS is close to zero - it is simply not an issue for users.

Thinking about upgrading the supplied router tg582n and the BT ECI Modem. Anyone got any word on Draytek Vigor 2760. all I can see is people with problems regarding the asus range of modems so looking around for a reliable solution.

Just checked plusnet, we can get fibre, but the max speed is only 43 down, so I think the 38mb package would be the one to go for!
How much faffing about does the engineer have to do to wire it all up? We currently have sky LLU all wired in.
I'm already impressed just with speaking to their live help!

You at least won't have to contact sky if you want to move everything over to plusnet since they'll do a live line takeover, and all the engineer has to do is add the new faceplate to the master socket, wire up all the equipment (including the fibre modem which you should remind the engineer about if they didn't bring one with them) and go to the cabinet to wire up the line to the fibre cabinet.

Coming from sky 40/10 package, all I did was sign up to plusnet. They did the rest didnt bother contacting sky. Was a bit confussing the information they gave though. Was told we couldn't keep the same number and an engineer needed to booked to come round. Gave them 3 available dates and got an email later in the week saying an engineer was coming round a few days earlier than planned (automated email).

Said engineer didn't show but last night our phoneline went dead around midnight the night before our booking and this morning the engineer was ment to turn up between 8am to 12. He never showed up. In the end I was at work so I got the gf to setup the box, all you do is plug it in, username password already on the box so she was up and running with 73/16 connection in a 2 min phone call. number is the same and no engineer came. I'm guessing they knew we had a mastersocket fitted when we got sky and already have the bt modem so was no need anyway. :p

Besides the bundled router what routers are people using in here who are on their ADSL package? Looking to change from the supplied router.

Just a shame the cashback deals are so poor currently. £10 cashback
:(

£140 cash back on quidco other day when I checked... Was for 40mb package. I clicked on it even though I went for 80mb, it's tracking and has a payment date so here's hoping :)

Their system would know if you have a fibre connection, but this can be a bad thing as a few sky customers have been left with no internet because of this as their newer hub has a ADSL and VDSL modem built in and the system thinks that they already had a stand alone modem and all the other work done and cancels the engineer visit.

Mine was similar - told would need a new number then told new number was the same! And then day due to go live it just worked, so rang to cancel the technician and they were confused that it was working and said to just send the person away as it was too late to cancel.
