Plusnet Discussion Thread

I can't recommend Plusnet to anyone at the moment. Their customer service has gone downhill big time. Long waits on hold (2.5 hours over 4 calls in the past 2 weeks) before getting through to someone, tickets going several days before being answered, taking months to sort out problems and not honouring deals even though I have it all written down by them.

I am not usually one to comment, however I have to agree, I left PN in October, spoke with two different people including the person who actioned my cancellation, also have it in a ticket from them that I owe nothing, now i get a debt recovery company contact me saying i still have an outstanding amount with PN. So I have to wait for the billing team to get back to me now....

Seems like they are so disorganised internally and an average hold time of 30 mins per call....

At one point I was considering Plusnet, but went with Zen instead. Glad I did after reading some recent comments floating about here and there. I've had no issues with them to date, support is excellent when I needed it (just once, dedicated number for unlimited fibre office package :)).

Zen actually looks good tbh, although its pricey. About as expensive as BT themselves. I'd say Zen is definitely better tho, as you get a static IP address and you're only contracted for a year, as opposed to 18 months with BT

Yeah. I would've considered AAISP but their bandwidth allocation (unit pricing) and the fact I needed multiple static IP's (otherwise home::1 would've been fine) is what put me off.

Although Zen's pricey for some, I believe in the phrase "you get what you pay for" most of the time :P - and so far half way through my contract term I've had no complaints :). I don't really use the landline for phone calls however, I use my Gigaset and PBX setup to go through the internet (much cheaper per minute rates). Still, line rental is fairly priced.

Hi,

I have just had plusnet 80mbit installed and at present i am getting 10 down / 20 up on speedtest.net.

is this something that i just need to wait for or do i have a problem of some sort. The engineers test said 80/20 but i guess that is to the vdsl box?

I tried three so far and they are all running at 10. Had to go back to work now so I will have another look when i get home.

You can check your PN speed profile in the members area.

Spoken to them and I was on the wrong profile. Just need to reset the modem/router when i get in see what happens then.

Anyone on Plusnet using a VPN? PIA or anything similar?

I remember trying one or two a while back and I got awful speeds; I am on the 80/20 package and am now looking into getting a VPN properly, anyone on Plusnet using a VPN that gets near enough full speed? Is this even possible? If so which one?

Finally after much shenanigans have got my FTTC installed and running today

Have to say am a happy camper now. Will see what it settles down to over the next few weeks

I've registered with Plusnet this weekend and requested my MAC code from BT which will take 5 working days to receive. I've gone for the Unlimited Fibre Extra which is equivalent to the Infinity 2 package that I was on with BT.

Quidco has tracked £110 cashback which is great and the 6 months half price bb and overall cheaper rates for line rental and phone bundle swayed me over.

Since I have the unlcoked BT modem and an Asus AC66U router I opted out from the Plusnet modem/router.

How can I obtain my username and password to enter into the router and are there any other settings I need to manually enter?

Thanks

Username for the PPPOE is [email protected] and the username & password are the same as the ones you signed up on the website with.

Assuming you're already on fibre with BT, the only thing you would need to change is the username and password on the PPPOE settings on the ASUS - everything else such as firewall rules should continue to work fine.

Had my Plusnet 80/20 connection for 6 months now - so far so good, no complaints.

And customer service is night & day compared to Virgin.
