Pokemon GO! (2016)

If Nearby is supposed to work I can only see 'Sightings' on the App at the moment.

My assumption is they haven't fully activated the feature all over the world, I'm in Glasgow.

My God, not directing this at your entirely but do people not read or look up anything? It's a BETA feature, it has not been rolled out on mass

Yeah, the tracking is Niantic's way of reminding everyone that they only care about players in major cities :p.

Anyone having problems with the game? Just went to the shop, I opened the game a bunch of times but no pokestops or pokemon load, and it won't track distance .

I live in the sticks; there are like 3 pokestops in my parish, but doesn't bother me.

At the end of the day, the game needs to attract the most users, and these happen to be urban dwellers. So it makes sense to focus their effort on those majority. Not to say others should be ignored, but to me it makes sense. It's a free game after all.

It is location specific. I didn't have it in London but I do in San Francisco. It is making catching Pokemon really easy.

Yes....It's still a BETA feature. Hence not being rolled out in it's entirety because it would probably break, then everyone would moan it wasn't tested properly :p

Unfortunately this has been shut down now with the developer receiving a cease and desist from Niantic. It seemed like a good idea, a middle ground between out and out 'cheating' like PokeVision etc. and the crap that is PoGOs tracking system. Why can't Niantic implement something like this in-game?

You won't need it with the new nearby feature when it comes out. You simply pick the Pokemon and it points to it on the map. You then simply walk to that spot.

Yes it is beta. It is a good feature.

I'm not talking about a live map like the likes of PokeVision etc, but are there any good maps that show good hotspots for rarer types? I keep hearing about people talking about nests or repeating spawns - I'd love to know where to head to for a good chance of a getting the pokemon I want.

Ah I didn't understand what was going on in that .gif posted a few pages back. If that's the case what's the point of the Pokestop picture behind the Pokemon.

Sounds over engineered to me when a simple and crude compass system would work just as well. I put money on it breaking soon after full roll out. :p

I don't know any specifically but they can be worked out quite easily using live maps. The nest locations don't change but the Pokemon that spawn at them do, so once you learn them you won't need to look anymore.

You could also try Facebook, my town has a really active group where people share sightings etc.

I think it points it towards the nearest pokestop. I got a Pinsir earlier. It wasn't next to the stop but was very close. It isn't clear yet if this will work without a pokestop.

Would be good to have a map. Would need a lot of crowd sourced data from all over for it to be useful in less populated areas. Areas other than London...

The Spring Gardens Park where I live was popular with Lickitungs, now it seems to be popular with Exeggcutes. Although I've not purposely gone out to catch one yet.

From the images I've seen even when you have the new feature you'll still get some that just show the grass because there's no pokestop nearby.

So for people outside of cities they'll basically just have the current grass tracking :p.

Edit: they could make it so that even when it's just the grass you can click on it and it zooms out and just shows a circle or something on the map showing that the pokemon is inside that area instead of showing the pokestop that it's in range of.

This is what it looks like when there's no pokestop in range for some:

I fear you might be right. I simply can't comprehend Niantics inability to come up with a solution for everyone, especially as the compass idea is so obvious and simple. If they're worried about making it too easy they could always limit the feature to the Pokemon at the top of the grid of 9.

Edit: Saying that I'm not surprised. There's so many features of the game that are simply stupid and easily improved upon. The whole candies thing for example and the apparent pointlessness of powering up and evolving your Pokemon versus catching stronger, wild ones.

Double edit: Oh and what's the point of leveling up a gym for 200 PP each time at 1 vs 3/4/5 when someone can sneak up behind you and remove 2000 PP at a time 6 vs 1.

Rant over :p

If you prestige a gym using a pokemon that's lower CP than the defender you get 500 per kill btw :), just run after you kill the first one and repeat the process. I never bother leveling gyms up though.

What I really want to see them add is a way to change moves, whether that's with candies/stardust just randomising current skills or transferring Pokemon X gives you a TM with the one of the skills it had that you can use on another of the same pokemon or some other method I really want to see that added. Mainly because Gyarados :D.

Edit: eventually (assuming you don't quit before it) you will have to use candies and stardust to power up rather than just catching better ones btw. Pokemon from eggs cap at level 20 for opening them, pokemon found in the wild will never be above level 30. So if you want pokemon past level 30 you have to spend dust/candies.

I agree it's pointless before that though, I haven't spent any stardust yet. Need to save it all for past 30 since it's like 200k stardust just to max one pokemon from level 25 to 40.5 :D.

Isn't that first image just the same as what I posted? And the second and third are only when you click on the pokestop pokemon, not the grass one?

I'm assuming the grass one means that there's no pokestop near it, so you just have to track it the normal way, which is what people with few pokestops nearby will have to do most of the time even when they get the new tracking.
