Pokemon GO! (2016)

Of course they will develop it. The game is now worth billions to its owners.

They won't have difficulty getting investment to improve it.

Exactly, its userbase is already nearly on par with twitter and Facebook, and it's only been out a few weeks!
You be mad not to invest and develop it, they won't even need to look for investment I wouldn't think.

Niantic is still relatively small.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niantic,_Inc.

I'm sure Nintendo and the Pokemon Company would be looking to try and pump in money for more equity.

Google must be kicking themselves. The people that got equity when it was spun out will probably end up very rich.

It will be interesting to see how many games come out copying this now, I realise we already had ingress (I assume its the same from what people are saying, never played it) but now obviously nowhere near the popularity.

It's the same company.

I doubt we'll see anyone copying it (closely) soon. Ingress was the catalyst for this - all these pokestops you see were created by people making Ingress portals. That's a massive undertaking that other companies won't be able to match.
Yes you can look on maps and get major landmarks, but that leaves smaller areas barren. You can't really datamine a decorative village sign to use as a 'pokestop', it needs users to upload it's existence.

Yep, servers being cained today..

I wonder if they'll allow user input like in ingress, maybe limited to areas with few pokestops to cover grey areas/blackbspots..it would make sense if they want to cater for people in remote areas or those people will just get bored and stop using app.

Interesting thing about people cramming into spaces when a rare pokemon is spotted, see various news articles...is that how the game works?
I thought if a pokemon spawns, its fairly random and just in your instance, and it won't nessesarily spawn/appear to anyone else? Its not as if the company would spawn hundreds of a specific pokemon at a single location at the same time?

Or maybe I'm not understanding the game mechanics properly.

They're not random, you're all the same instance, I met a friend whilst walking yesterday and he told me there was a specific Pokemon down the road, when I got there, it was the exact one he described.

So a squirtle for example, will keep respawning at the same place no matter how many times its caught?

As I understand it, it spawns once, for a limited time but everyone can capture it while it's there.

So everyone is within the same environment, sees the same spawns etc but their subsequent consumption of that environment is personal.

Is this just for rare pokemon?

Because otherwise surely all subsequent pokemon should have the same logic applied.

It's how they all work as far as I can see, they spawn into a common game environment but each player interacts individually.

So a pikachu may spawn by the local library at 5pm til 6pm, he'll be there for everyone but capturing it won't remove it for everyone, only you.

I don't think the pokemon are uniquely spawning, I think it's just that the game decides that X pokemon will be discoverable at Y location for Z time. This applies for everyone.
