Pokemon GO! (2016)

Simple question, what is this "IV" everyone is talking about? Bear in mind I have never played any previous Pokemon games!

Stick in your pokemon's name, their CP, HP, and stardust needed to power them up. It will spit out combinations that your pokemon might go down when being powered up and the percentage compared to the highest values seen for that pokemon. Standard min/max formulas.

IV stands for "individual value" - it's basically a hidden value that determines a pokemon's growth in a certain area. Example: a pokemon that has a high Sp.Atk IV will gain more Sp.Atk when levelling up than the same species of pokemon with a low Sp.Atk IV.

You could catch several Pidgeys, but the stat growth for each one would be different.

That table doesn't say much really that you can't work out intuitively, higher CP/HP equals better Pokemon. Pretty simple I would say :p

As an immediate comparison between 2 Pokemon that is mostly true. However as you power up you may find that your previously high cp Pokemon is actually limited. The stats are like multipliers. You could have a high level Pokemon that appears to be strong compared to your other low level Pokemon with low cp.

The highest stat is 15/15/15 attack/defence/stamina. I've caught many high cp Pokemon only to find their growth potential is very limited because their stats were low. Put simply their high cp is from their level and not their stats and another Pokemon with higher stats as it is levelled up will overtake it.

Yes but with those stats being hidden and must be partly represented in HP/CP (as they are what is used to calculate this IV in the table) so a safe bet is high CP/HP Will equal a better Pokemon or have I missed something?

Yes you are missing the level of the Pokemon. A high level Pokemon with high cp could mask that it actually has low stats. This is why you need to take into account the stardust upgrade price as well.

Yeah I see that as well, similar or higher CP from a stardust upgrade cost 'mon means they will be better than the other when upgraded.

I thought the hidden stuff would be because of the weight or something :p don't get me wrong the sheet is useful as if you don't have a competitive Pokemon you will be guessing but it's not quite as complex as I expected it to be.

Haven't been able to load the game for 2 days now, on Thursday night it would just give the "cannot retrieve player data from the server" error, so I've re-installed the app, now it's stuck on the spinning ball icon after selecting "sign up with google" - as I already have an account (was level 7). Any ideas?

Edit: it's my phone. Sideloaded the app on my Nexus 7 (2nd gen) and it loads up instantly. :(

I'm half tempted to cut my losses on my trainer account and go google. Couldn't log in again this morning on trainer account, in straight away on Google. I only spent £2 and a weeks time so tempted to give it up as a bad job.

Just walking through Regents Park and wow London zoo has a lot of stops!

I also saw a level 6 gym earlier with 6 Pokemon in it.
