Political Correctness Gone Mad Again

'Grid girls' will no longer be used by Formula 1 from the start of the 2018 World Championship season.

Sean Bratches, managing director of commercial operations, said the change would be made "so as to be more in tune with our vision for this great sport. While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 grands prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms, We don't believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world."

Well I guess I’m safe, I’d rather seek out re-runs of Z Cars
than watch cars going round in circles, or worse still, darts.

Got to be cheerleaders at football and american football next I'd imagine, possibly the ring girls at boxing too. Then maybe the "booth girls" at gaming/cosplay conventions

I can't believe how triggered some people are over the removal of the walk on and grid girls. :p

Don't you think its maybe an issue that pressure from outside of a sport, from people who have no interest in said sport about whether clothed women can sell their services as models accompanying the sports players is maybe part of a wider issue? I am sure it's not a big issue for you but it's the principle at stake here

Women fight the perceived patriarchy. Women make themselves unemployed. Foot. Themselves. Shot. The. In.

More authoritarian nonsense again, this country is a free one as long as you're not hurting others and you obey the law. My problem with it all is it's a slippery slope. Will they seek to ban all modeling over time as it's demeaning to women? It's all becoming rather puritanical and heavy handed.

Surely this is just freedom of speech at work? After all no legislation is being made to change things, just pressure being brought to bear by advertisers, pressure groups etc. It isnt like grid girls are integral to the sport and it is unlikely that their loss will mean people turn off from watching.

What ban?

As far as I can see no one has banned these organisations from having pretty women looking like decorations at the events.

they appear to have made business decisions to do so, pretty much the same reason they originally started using them (originally they were employed because it helped draw an audience, or made it look more glamorous as opposed to being a bunch of usually overweight men in a smokey bar in what was often quite a boring sport, at least for darts)...
