Hello

Thanks for your feedback.

We have put a lot of work into our returns procedures recently that should really go a long way to change your opinion if you ever had to use our returns department for anything.

In addition, you mention 087 calls. We haven't utilised that system for a good while now. Instead all calls to Overclockers UK are charged at a local rate

:)

Thanks for you response. :)

I considered it, though all the Xeon's I could find were used - no telling how much abuse/work these chips have done. I could spend £70 and find it breaks a few weeks months later, with no hope of warranty.

Also, my P6T-Deluxe v1 has been in use pretty much 24/7 since december 2008, wouldn't be surprised if it gives up the ghost soon either.

Would prefer to spend more (granted, a lot more) and have something with full warranty, for peace of mind, that will last another 5 years.

Not to mention, I would quite like to upgrade to Sata3, USB3 etc, all of which are unavailable on my X58 board.

If the Xeon you buy is pulled from a server (it's highly likely it is) then it would never have been overclocked.

Xeons are more conservative than David Cameron. They're made to use as little power and operate on as little voltage as is possible. My 8 core Ivy idles at 0.9v.

The only time they would have been overclocked is when fitted to an SR2 and those were hen's teeth. Not only that, but SR2 owners won't be quaking in their boots at a 8 core Haswell if they have 16 physical cores in their rig.

SR2s were not massive clockers TBH. They did overclock both though which was unreal.

If it is ~50%+ faster than I'm currently using for the things I do then I might consider it but as I doubt that then I voted no.

I'll definitely be upgrading but I don't know when exactly at the moment. I know I want to game at 4K though so might as well get the best I can get at the time of purchase. Definitely before Christmas though, most likely just before FIFA launches :)

A question all these higher end intel cpus with more cache over the 4770k/4970ks, does this bigger cache amount make a big difference overall to the speed?

Say even in multi-tasking, browsing or gaming?

I am still unsure think it will be too expensive for me and I am in the market to upgrade next month.

With regards to OCUK RMA's I have recently sent back a motherboard it was replaced rather quickly but the replacement I received was in very poor condition with bent pins it went back to you was repaired then returned to me again quickly i installed it then realised there were no cpu heatsink retaing brackets.

I called and was promised I would be sent a replacement bracket a few times. Last week I gave up and ordered them at great expense from a competitor in america only place that stocked the same style. So my experience of RMA's was not great.

I will upgrade if the price and performance is good otherwise I'm waiting for Skylake. I suppose that might disappoint to read, Gibbo but look at it this way, I'll have more money by then so can buy a bigger spec CPU :p

Even knowing my cpu and mobo and ram are plenty, I'm a sucker for new technology. So it might be a month or two after release I will upgrade.

I will NOT be moving to X99.

Reason: there won't be any mini ITX X99 motherboards!

If any manufacturer would like to oblige then I *might* consider it - but as it stands, it'll be Broadwell/Z97 for me.

Not going to be upgrading to X99, I've very happy with my 4790K. I probably won't even consider upgrading until Skylake if it offers enough features.

Exactly this for me.
Would be nice to see such boards, but in reality can't see it happening. Will be happy with broadwell , will do everything I need. Saying that so does my 4670k.

depends on how much difference there is over my 3930 x79 setup, i am tempted though. and i do already have someone itching to buy my x79 gear.

i would be looking to upgrade:- only my 7990 ...........forget the rest until 2016

other than that, a fresh install of win 8 while i'm asleep tonight will do just fine, as long as it sorts out this BIOS start up disaster

If its a big enough improvement I might swap out my x79 for x99 instead of getting the 4930k.

Somewhat sceptical but hopeful.

but it wont improve your gaming because you're probably at max pc power already, the only thing that'll improve gaming is a better GPU next year

the faults i'm seeing whilst gaming are either dodgy GPU beta drivers, or normal glitches in the 7990, which are too be expected and as per my 7970.
