I'm an upgrading demon and I can't see this doing a whole lot better than my well-clocked Haswell tbh! I'd love to be proven wrong :D

Looks like I'll be fine for a few gens :)

Nope, Intel are taking us for a ride, another expensive chipset with the 6 core chips exclusive to it, they should be mainstream by now.

We need AMD to come good and force Intel to compete with faster chips with more cores, at mainstream pricing.

Agreed. Doesn't look likely though, at least in the short term :(

I am likely to pick up a x79 platform at 2nd hand with an ivy core, I already have 32gb DDR3 ram, so no point in selling that up, will get another 32gb for 64gb and 6 core as I do a lot of video editing - getting by with an ivy i7 3770k at 4.5ghz for now - not exactly slow! lol

Im looking to build a photo/video editing system so x99 will suit my needs if the price comes close to my budget of £900 .If not then i will snap up some cheap x79 stuff that will no doubt be listed in the mm:)

X79 stuff will not be cheap sadly even when X99 comes out. It will of course be cheaper than X99 but it is all relative. The prices will dip a bit and plateau and as boards and CPUs dry up, will stabilise and come up again due to rarity. Same pattern we see with all previous gens of high end stuff. Your budget will easily afford it though.

Would love to have a play, but my current rig is more than enough for me and what I do. Still doesn't stop me wanting to upgrade though - as I loved my hex core X58 system.

I might when prices come down a bit after the frenzy of launch (I hope). we will see. Look forward to some reviews.

Yeah it's 'get in now' time if you want X79.

I'm still stunned that I managed to get a returned Gigabyte X79 UD3 for £56 inc. I'll be holding onto that one :D

I've seen a few boards going for too cheap IMO in the MM. £60 is no price for that sort of board..

I await the 12 core Xeons in about a year hehe. Will be fun to play with !

I might be upgrading, got the update bug. Not bought anything aside from my monitor since December and I'm just itching to spend some money. Gives me an excuse to buy a new case and more rads :)

When is x99 expected to be released?

i might do it 1-2 weeks after launch/reviews.

could get the cpu by selling my z97soc board + delid 4970k chip.
would only need the board and memory.

though i dunno lol

Everyone knows it :-)
29/08, so next friday.
When particular models will be in stock is a different issue.
I heard evga is behind a little.
But I am fine with that.
I'll read some reviews here. I'll be upgrading anyway, but it's good to know what to expect.

I'm hoping the 5960X overclocks well, would be the only chip to get for X99.
Looking at my bank though, if i do hop over it'll probably be to a 30k then the 60x later down the line, don't think i could take the hit all in one :(

I opted for "Maybe: Shall consider Z97 or X99 based on reviews" because there wasn't an option for "Will upgrade when I'm confident the wife isn't looking".....

Why do you think the 30k isn't any good? You make it sound like current gen processors are better than the 30k.

I think he meant that only the 5960 will offer a big enough jump (because of the cores) compared to 4930 / 4960.

Ah. I'm making the jump regardless from my 920 and I'm torn between the 60x and 30k. It really depends on how these CPU's overclock. It would be nice to have 8 cores of power but if 30k per core clock speed is quite a lot higher after OC'ing it then it may be better off going with it. Like even right now at base clocks the 30k has 21 combined Ghz and the 60x has 24ghz combined. But after overclocking that 60x will most likely blow it out of the water combined since it gets more out of it with it having more cores.

5820k is $40 more then the 4790k so technically it should in theory be £300.

I'm so hype, but OCUK are a bit... Expensive. *cough*someone else*cough* is offering 3000MHz DDR4 for like... 150 quid less than you guys.
