On a poor mans ultra wide arm and looking to move up thanks to unessasry power . Currently using an LG UM 29" 2560x version , I love it just need more pixels . Wouldn't go back to 16:9 . I don't miss the vertical pixels but I appreciate the horizontal extra .

I am sticking with 16:9 to match mainsteam aspect ratio and to ensure compatibility with games/applications. Though i do wish we used the 1.9:1 ratio like 4K and standardised something for cinema and home.

Upgraded in resolution, from 1080p superwide to 1440p 16:9 and found I wasn't actually missing the extra horizontal space.
You went from 2560 horizontal pixels to 2560 horizontal pixels, so there isn't much "extra horizontal space" to miss. Going to 3440px and back to 2560px (or the other way) might be a different story and a more fair comparison.

As for me, I went from a 22" 1680x1050 (that I thought was still enough after 6-7 years of owning it, but TN viewing angles got me looking around the market) to 34" 3440x1440 and it was like getting my vision back after years of blindness. :p

And to people who want to stick to 16:9 because of content: a 21:9 screen can display your 16:9 content just as well, plus, you are getting everything out of the content that's made for 21:9 i.e. extra space/FOV/immersion in games and movies are physically bigger (you would need a 38" 16:9 for a movie to be the same size as on a 34" 21:9). So unless you are consuming exclusively 16:9 content, there is no reason to stick to 16:9... unless you are getting a 40" 4K (which is for me, currently, the next step up from a 34" 21:9) or if you want a high DPI display.

I use both 2560x and 3440x ultrawides.

You definitely feel the lack of desktop space when moving back to 2560x1080p but it really depends on how you use windows. if you are heavy on multi tasking with windows side-by-side then 2560x1080 will hold you back. However, i use them both differently. I dont heavily multi task on my 2560x at home - most things i do are either full screen or split 70/30 with a video playing in one third of the screen, something like that. at work ive always got multiple windows open and the resolution increase is very much needed. at home, 3440x1440 is more of a want but then i'd need to buy a few hundred quids worth of extra gpu as well so...meh.

depends on the display size. 34" ultrawide vs 40" 4k, pixels are about the same size, 110 pixels per inch more or less. 27" 1440p is 109.something as well, so if you've used one of them you you'll how windows will scale on the 40" 4k.

What's best recommended ultra wide for fps gaming with nvidia cards? Or are they all about the same currently?

Pretty much all the same 60hz...the dell u34 gets favourable reviews...I just can't decide what direction to go in...2 x 1440p or 1x 34" SUPERWIDE...

or get 1 x 1440p dell u27 for video editing and real estate alongside a 27 " 1080p 144hz for gaming

34 will require a 980ti and I just don play enough hours to warrant the outlay...but the u34 would be great for Adobe suite.

Same mate I want a new monitor and superwide looks so nice I just don't think I wanna go back to 60hz. Then again I'm not sure my cards can output 120/140hz superwide resolutions anyway.

Maybe a swift or predator is best bet.

I had a dell 29" but couldn't get used to how small the screen was compared to 27" and also 60hz was no go for me :(

There is Acer XR34 that might be interesting: 3440 IPS 75Hz G-Sync, around August/September https://pcmonitors.info/acer/acer-xr341ck-and-xr34-75hz-curved-ips-models/
eagerly waiting to see how the freesync version will perform...

And if you want 144Hz at a cost of resolution/pitch there is Acer Z35 Predator / BenQ XR3501: 35" 2560x1080 VA, also G-Sync (Acer at least)

Don't know much about the 29" versions.
