What do your friends do? Where abouts are they?

Do you not think the money would be better spent tackling the issue at source rather from this end?

Drugs are illegal, does that stop the industry?

Both. There will always be an illegal trade but it I'll be much reduced. The people on the front line in Africa are the ones asking for a complete ban as the partial ban on new ivory doesn't work as there is too much corruption and it gets signed off elsewhere in the world as old. Only a complete trade ban would stop that.

One elephant every fifteen minutes is killed. We could ban it totally and send help to try and reduce poaching.

If most of the market is removed then the poachers will stop as they won't have anywhere to sell their ivory.

They are over in northern Kenya out with the rangers giving assistance and help.

So, stop free school dinners for infants, raise taxes for everyone, a death tax for old sick people, and kill the elephants.
A strong and stable manifesto.

The market won't go away though, naive again i feel.

I know, it's wounding that such beautiful creatures are being killed so often, but again, i don't think the way to solve it is through desk work at this end. Helping the front line is the way to go. Surveillance eh?! lol Perhaps catch them and lock them up

How many foxes would it take to kill an elephant? I'm thinking we could kill two birds with one stone here.

Release some elephants into a cage with dozens of foxes, then finish off the elephants with the dogs. As a bonus, the dogs would take a long time to kill the elephants, and would probably sustain horrific injuries themselves. Blood for the blood god! What sport!

It is funny how people get so wound up with animals, this thread has been full of it, please think of the foxes. I can think of some severe famine going on in Africa that could probably do with more debate.

Ah, the "There are more important things going on, so it doesn't matter" argument. As invalid here as it always is.

How we treat animals is a real reflection on our values as a society. Our humanity.

Meanwhile, a hard Brexit (costed at £100bn by the OBR) is completely uncosted in the Conservative manifesto.

But surely nationalising everything like labour want to do, as well as a possible hard brexit, is more dangerous?

Yes. About 45% of our trade is with the EU, 55% outside the EU, and the overall trend has been towards increasing the percentage of trade outside the EU.
That is less than I thought although I anticipate it's ~50% for aforementioned reasons in the thread (I.e we carry out trade on EU terms). In any case, I would be extraordinarily cautious about underestimating the damage that losing 45% of trade on preferential terms will cause....

A country that is currently a complete shadow of its former self and a laughing stock of the world? I'm sure that was Labour's fault too.

Laughing stock of the world? Really?

No, I eat meat.

It is possible to be concerned with animal welfare and still eat animals, I would say.

Bit ironic though, i am a vegetarian btw.

I fail to see how eating animals and being pro animal welfare is in any way conflicted.

None of us who eat meat want to see animals suffering. We all want our livestock to live well, and die quickly with minimal pain.

The argument that you cannot oppose hunting with hounds if you eat meat is somewhat ludicrous.
