Given the dismay in the Investigatory Powers Act thread by a rather large majority on here about May and her ideology I'm amazed how many people are saying they'll vote Conservative.

All you thinking of voting libdem have you not forgot the student fees back stab ?
That party despises democracy and the let leader Mr Fallon looks like bug eyed, camp cliff Richard.

I think they would, because the thing that put them in power in 2010 was young voters hoping they would fight for them, the thing that saw them decimated in 2015 was young voters who felt betrayed by them, and the thing that will see them resurge in 2017 will be young voters who have now see what a Tory majority government looks like and realised they were fighting for them.

I hope so. Too many of my friends didn't seem to understand what being a minor member of a coalition meant, and how much the Lib Dems actually stemmed some of the worst Tory policies. Hopefully they will come back round this time and vote for them.

As to who I'll vote for, no idea yet. Possibly lib dems as they usually line up reasonably well with my feeling (a fairly centralist party) but I may end up having to vote Labour strategically..

which wasn't a backstab as they were in a coalition and did not have ultimate control. Moreover what we remember is the nastier crap the Tories wanted to bring in that they kept at bay and the other good things they did while in coalition

this site has plenty of details on what they were able to achieve

so take your right wing looney peddling and jam it up your buttocks

i'm also disgusted with how many people are voting conservative. They've bought into the propaganda from most of the media without even checking the true facts.

I voted leave, i also vote tory. I don't regret my decision, however I didn't vote based on either sides campaigns. I did my own research, came up with my own conclusions.

A lot of my personal views focused on Southern Europe, and how the EU has decimated those countries. It's a failed social experiment that has run it's course. It had quite a few merits. But now it is time to just return to a trading block, with freedom of movement, and for us to take what we have learnt and move on. Trying to bring everyone together politically, monetary and fiscally was just an awful idea, but I guess you don't know if you don't try... I don't agree with deeper integration. Which would have happened if we had remained. Obviously this is all my own opinion.

.

this line of thought is purposely stupid and fundamentally misunderstands how coalitions work

they did not win a majority at that election, and so were not at liberty to enforce their manifesto in full
the coalition agreement explained the policies that they could find support between both parties, which did not include tuition fees

at a time when labour had just presided over the worst recession in a long time, having some kind of working government was a far more important priority than every single LD manifesto commitment, and as has been proved since, they had a restraining affect on the Tories which is now sadly missed.

Let me help...

If you moan after an election about your inability to impact change without exercising your vote then you need to look in a mirror. I am not suggesting this applies to all who do not vote as many care not one toss.
Yep that all makes sense - but I still don't see how you draw this from a pic that simply shows many people choose not to vote... it doesn't show anything about those who do complain. Not that it really matters - we can all move on! :p

I'd wager the 'moaners' are the people that voter labour and lib dem more so than those that didn't vote. Or green. Damn greenies.

According to my local lib dem councillor :

"LIB DEM MEMBERSHIP UP 5000 TODAY

Over 5000 people have joined the Liberal Democrats since Mrs May made her announcement about a June 8th General Election at 11am.

At one stage, the website was not functioning because of the numbers wanting to join."

:D

I think the current polling is seriously underestimating the support the Lib Dem's will get in this election

https://twitter.com/LibDems/status/854407630961430528

5000 new members just today

Also, look at the results of our poll compared with the 2015 ones....

I would laugh so hard if May just ends up with a similar/smaller majority but with loads of the opposition (say 50+ seats) being Lib Dems who will be even more noisy/obstructive in her hard Brexit plans.

Or she may have miscalculated it completely and we could end up with a LAB/LIB DEM coalition.
