Why? Do you work harder than say, a Nurse on less than 20K per year?
I work hard at what I do and have done over the last 20 years or so - I chose my path. I'm not suggesting I'm better/worse than a nurse, we both have our roles to do in this world. I am also not suggesting nurses shouldn't be earning more or shouldn't be paid more fairly - so not sure what your point is?
If you earn £100,000 a year you will pay £20 extra a week.
Is that going to affect your quality of life? Do you not think something like the NHS is a great institution that's worth protecting?
I'd love to earn that sort of money, and would happily pay extra back in to the country.
But lots of people earn that sort of salary, it's not as if it's uncommon. Why not set a threshold for those people that earn actual shedloads?
Do you have the same feeling towards those that own their own businesses and pay themselves through dividends instead and have a much lower tax liability (earning lots, but paying less tax)?
I'm quite happy paying my fair taxes, but I think the threshold should be raised to a more sensible limit.
Personally I think the welfare system we have in France is fairer. It's means-tested. i.e. if you earn a little, you pay less or nothing towards your healthcare, if you earn lots you pay more towards your healthcare. The NHS is great, but it's so broken that shoving more money at it is not going to solve the problem.
That's what they'll do bud, blame you for everything that's happening in the country, it's so out of touch with the reality.
I understand why - there is definitely a divide.
