Wow, car crash interview from tim farron on ITV, asked about whether gay sex was a sin, refused to answer and made to look like homophobic by Micheal Gove...

I wish someone would ask Theresa "vicar's daughter" May the same question given how much she trades on her Christian faith.

I am frankly stunned that this guy is the Lib Dem leader.
But why, he's already answered that question in the HoC, its not really his fault people stupidly keep asking him the same question over and over again. I reckon most people would stop answering the same question after a while, more so as its clearly at odd with his faith. The key part though is that he still champions equal rights regardless.

May's voting on it is mixed. I wonder what it is like compared with Tim's?

Also, what did Tim actually say in response to the question?
May's voting history goes back a bit further which is where it's mixed. As said, in recent years it's fine.

Not sure on the ITV interview Dolph is referring to (was it today?), couple years ago on C4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNA3-YntZk4

Seems somewhat hypocritical for Gove to pick on Farron when it wouldn't surprise me if May held similar views given her religious background.

Do we know whether May thinks gay sex is a sin? I seem to recall Gove describing her as being our first Catholic PM.

They both have a reasonable voting record on LGBT stuff in recent years which is surely more relevant?

May is hugely anti gay. She has voted against every gay equality bill in parliament since she was an MP.

I'm just amazed that someone who believes homosexuality is a sin, has managed to become the Lib Dem leader. I thought they were more liberal than that.

I'm in London, i don't own or drive a car

So how do you avoid paying VAT?

The interview was this morning with Robert peston.

i thought he'd finally come out (herp derp) and said it wasn't a few days ago, guess that was just for the cameras there and since then has been battered about the head with a bible again.

i see corbyns going for it today with his talk of new bank holidays, nice if you have a job where you get them off or paid extra unlike a lot of the country.

A few days ago, he was asked is homosexuality a sin, and he said no. Today he was asked specifically about practicing gay sex, so the questions were different. It would suggest that he accepts homosexuality is not a choice, but the practice of it is.

May is an Anglican; Gove's description of her as "the first Catholic PM" was one of the oddest, and most disturbing, attack pieces I've ever seen.

I don't think people much care. It's an issue for Farron because he's part of the Liberal Democrats who have a strongly pro-LGBT ethos, and also because he keeps avoiding a straight answer. I'm not sure it would actually be much worse if he came out and said what he clearly believes; it's the slippery evasion that keeps it an issue.

Pink News published a piece on May's views when she became PM and seem pretty convinced she's changed her mind.

One can change their views, ...but change their mind? Why would someone support gay marriage yesterday but be against it today? What you say and what you think are quite different, especially a politician.

What's corbyns views on trident? And why have we got to wait till may to find out (manifesto) he knows his views, but he's waiting for the right time to make them known. Politics.

Maybe may Is for the "turning'. I'm staying at home this time on June 8th. Had enough of it all.

Well, going back to the Commons debate that tried to assassinate Farron, his direct quote begins with a simple statement: 'I do not...' Then everyone has access to his voting record. He's the leader of the party, he signed up to its ethos and has consistently been clear that the issues of faith and politics are separate, nor, unlike say Tony or W, has he related on record about faith driving his decision making in the matters of national interest. This was tested in his leadership campaign, and he came out on top, commanding a mandate from the membership which does not believe on the evidence presented that he's a stealthy Christian gay-basher.

Meanwhile, May trades on being a Christian with her traditional voting base, but seems happy to screw over the poor, disabled, etc, which isn't the most Christian approach.

It's almost as though politicians say one thing and people don't notice that they merrily carry on with doing another.

Sorry, I'm still unclear where you stand on May potentially holding the same religious views? Or were you just unimpressed by Farron's inability to wriggle out of awkward questions which is something that May excels at?

Was thinking the same, perhaps isn't as relevant/damaging for May to hold the same views if homophobia is more palatable to Tory voters.
The key part though is that he still champions equal rights regardless.
Exactly. I'm also inclined to feel the same towards May rather than judge her on votes she made over a decade ago.
