The whole point is that even if he would never press the button that's fair enough but he's supposed to keep stumm and say yep he'd do it. That's it. If any actually start flying then we are into a different pretty doomed scenario.

He didn't even need to say he would or wouldn't - and would have been fine to say he'd take a progressive policy and any situation under advisement (he could even hide behind interests of national security though that would be more a right wing style of politics) - but he took the first opportunity he could, against the interests of the country, to try and break the system and promote his own vision of an end goal of a nuclear free world - and people think voting for him as PM is a good idea...

Even if we had no nukes at all... what difference would it make?

I don't see Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, Spain, etc... all terrified of being invaded by North Korea....

The US has got more nukes than the rest of the world combined, last time I checked. Not sure what difference our pitiful nuclear arsenal makes.

In the long run it could make a huge difference - we can't predict the political landscape in 10, 20, 30 years and you can't just reactively build up a defensive capability to a potential threat like that - regardless of what shape the world looks like today we can't ignore that for instance one of our closest neighbours has a large armed forces and nuclear weapons of their own.

What has our nuclear deterrent go to do with North Korea? that is pretty far down the list of reasons for having it as things stand.

The MAD doctrine doesn't hinge alone on quantity - even a relatively small number of nuclear weapons can do a level of damage that disincentivises a would be opponent from escalating action against us beyond a certain point.

Wouldn't it be nice, just for once, to have an honest campaign...

Mind you people rent or "rent" clothes all the time - couple of girls I used to work with would buy clothes for a night out, not take the labels out and return it the next day - kind of chavvy but there you go.

I'm getting propaganda posted through my door every day from our Lib Dem candidate, in the past I have voted Lib Dem but, just to spite them, I'm voting labour because they've annoyed me with the incessant junk mail.

Also I was voting labour anyway.

Well I was about to defend the guy. Some people have a few odd bits of nice clothes but then suddenly come up oj hard times.

But he fully looks like part of the 5% club. Posh schools.... Posh college... Head boy (didn't even think that was a real thing)...nice holiday gap years. Fully believe he was placed there to make poor people believe zero hour contracts benefit them.

I'm so angry that everything seems to be lie after lie. You cant trust anything these days.

Well you can trust the fact that increasingly politicians seem to think they can take the general public for a ride and increasingly the general public will let them :s

So what's the alternative? It's not just politics, deceiving people is in all walks of life and if you're good at it you go far.

True but there is a gradient to it - some in politics have shown utter contempt towards the general public that others haven't, etc. yet people keep voting for them.
