POLL: Will you be moving from Haswell to Skylake?

I love threads like this on OCUK forums.

Asking a specific question and you get the people popping in:

"No reason to upgrade from my 2500K, the new platforms do nothing new"

Don't see how this is remotely surprising.. It's a cheaper manufacturing process so why would they change it? Especially when people buy their chips anyway.

Yeh exactly. Intel's mainstream CPU's have had the same TIM for 4 generations already - why anyone would expect them to suddenly change is beyond me. Intel have absolutely no competition for the highend mainstream CPU's, none at all.

Not really struggling either tbh, but fancy something new to play about with. Got a fairly good run out of Z87, but its pretty much a dead socket now.

it can do your head in though, fathoming new tech and driver/bios niggles

its nice not to mess and actually enjoy, but I know what you mean, the itch can be strong sometimes

Very true, but tbh I've had very little trouble with the board in sig. Only real issue was when flashing the bios for DC compatibility. Pretty convoluted process as it needs an update in windows prior to using ez flash. Normally all you need is a usb pen and ez flash alone.

If I did go skylake, this time id likely go for a cheaper board. The Z107 v pro looks very similar in layout to the Z77 model I had. Formula has been rock solid but not a great board for multi gpu.

Currently running on Haswell with a 4770K and have no interest in Skylake since IIRC it would involve a new board and RAM since the socket has changed plus it's DDR4. I might buy a new motherboard for mine and go Z97 since I think one of the RAM slots is a bit iffy on my board.

Will see how things go.

Stoner81.

I'm now rocking a B85 chipset and a 4690k clocked to 4.2ghz...

The mobo was 25 quid and the chip 95...

Downgraded from a x99 and 5930k....

Never looked back...I don't feel I've been ripped off running this budget setup...in fact I'm enjoying it more tbh...playing Farcry 4 today was no different than on the 800 quid mobo x99 combo...

And that's the truth.:D

I doubt I'll go to skylake if I'm honest...it's amazing what level of performance can be had for literally peanuts these days.

The problem with new intel Cpu`s is that they really do not offer much from a upgrade point of view unless you are using some thing that is 5+ years old.

I'm still rocking Sandybridge-E (i7 3930k). I don't think I'll be upgrading for some time yet. I'd get more of a performance boot by adding a second SSD for my Linux install (currently I have Windows 7 or an SSD and Linux on a normal 2TB HDD).

Frankly I'm not sure it would be worth upgrading anything in my computer just yet. It still runs really fast even though I did buy it in May 2012 (I can't believe how fast time flies by).

I'll only change my 2600K when it or the mobo pops (4 years @ 4.6 so far).

In fact for me, new mobo features are more appealing than a new chip as USB3.0 etc was brand new when I bought my rig so the P8P67 mobo is a bit twitchy with it and guess what all my external drives are now..........USB3.0, Doh!

That 2600k is still a very good CPU and probably will be for a few years yet.
