Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

My personal preference in a Cayman is PDK but then I'm a bit bias. However, its all a personal choice!

I pretty much agree with Housey, just go with what she thinks is right for her.

True.

But one of the most fun drives I had in a Porsche was a Boxster 2.9DFI manual because oh boy did I drive it like I stole it, but simply because the engine begged to be revved and you need to stir that joyful gearbox a lot to keep it in the power. Yes it was fun, yes the lack of power and lack of grip would also become an issue once the ragging it everywhere wore off but as a courtesy car it was epic fun. :D

I would also agree with you, but its going to be her car, so I've got her going through the configurator at the moment and we picked up some brochures explaining most things. But hopefully it should be with us by May. Though I wouldnt mind getting her on one of those experience days so she can learn how to drive it properly. She will probably use it to commute to work and keep it in 5th gear.

I was thinking of PASM, due to me having a bad back, I thought it would give a smother ride than just sports suspension. Though the biggest decision she has to make is does she want the car in metallic black or standard black.

Porsches have great damping in their modern cars. You'll get more problems with your back getting in and out. I would personally go with metallic black but as I said, subjective so look at both and see which one you prefer.

Yeah I had my coccyx removed 2 years ago, and I cant really tolerate a crashy car. I never got the chance to test drive one of the cars, but we are going back next week, so Im gonna jump in one and have a blast

I may have driven a relatively base spec 2015 Cayman PDK like that while I had it as a loan.

We went looking for new apartments, had about 20 to view, so took all the back routes and made my wife a little nervous on a couple of occasions hehehe... Was great fun and that smaller engine is a revvy little critter :)

TBH she's looking forward to getting it. Its going to be our first taste of a porsche and give it a couple years, she probably want to step up a model.

I had the same issue when we ordered the panamera, I struggled to justify £800 to go from flat black to metallic black but it I think its worth it in the end.

This is how I would spec it keeping in mind its for a women and not performance driven with a bit of consideration to resale. I just did not put PSE and Sports chromo to keep the price down.

It may be worth holding out for the face lift as they will be moving to a horrible 2.0 Turbo charged engine but the cayman price should come down as they want to place it under a Boxter now.

You should get a half day with any car at Silverstone, sure you can get them to chuck in a proper full day for you.

It's a shame 2nd gear is so long on all Porsches, ruins the box a little when using it on public roads!

Nice Spec, out of that we both agree that we are really not that bothered about full leather interior. I would love it on the dash, but not on the seats. We've both done leather on our cars, and tbh we are fed up of the cold feel of it. I know we've spec'd heated seats, but we both fancy the alcantara, it feels really nice. All the other bits we have specc'd except for the pdk.
With regards to the refresh, we both really didn't fancy a 4pot turbo, as we boith drive 4pot turbos and it wouldnt feel as special.
I just think its mad that we have to spend £234 for a rear wiper, the wife drives a mini coupe that does not have one and she says its essential

DO NOT spec power steering plus, it's ****. Also I would go sports suspension 20mm lower over PASM and I would add an LSD.

This again really. :D

I have X73 (Sport Chassis) and LSD (LSD) on mine. However, I was luckily enough to back to back various different options on the cars including and X73 was PASM. The easiest way I can description the differences PASM rides very well but feels numb but the X73 is firm but not crashy and it makes the whole car feel alive. To me it felt like the X73 is between normal and sports setting. I did write some feedback when I went to the Porsche Experience Center.

PTV is a great option to finish the car setup of but depends on how hard the car is going to be driven. If its going to be used to have leisurely drive about in, its not worth the extra.

Depending where you are in the country you're more than welcome to have a look around mine.

PSE would be one of the must have options IMO, I do like a bit of noise. :D

Sports Chrono is only worth it in conjunction with the PDK.

I don't think alcantara is a option unless you go for a GTS. In my view the car looks cheap without the leather dash.

Fair play about the 4 pot, I would not want it but I assumed your wife was not fussed.

Power steering plus is awful, I am having it removed form my car soon.

The rear wiper is expensive but I find it a real pain not to have it, one of my 911s has it and the other does not. You can't see anything out of the back if its raining.

I agree with andy PSE is very nice but again I did not think a woman would be fussed about it.

Porsche Entry & Drive is amazing, I have it on my car and love it

So something like this

Looks nice, but without all the performance stuff.

but they are (were?) affordable, and £25k for a 996 turbo was a bit of a bargain back then.

I think you mis-read my comment.

996 turbo is much better than the standard 996... the extras really bring the 996 to life, the standard 996 feels dull and boring... albeit you can still have a giggle with it.
