Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Turbo is a bit different... but I was not a huge fan of the 996 either... the weight distribution is fun, but compared to a 997 (or 987) - it just couldn't compete :)

Just a thought and that's all it is at the moment. I have been thinking about replacing the Pirelli's P-Zero with Michelin Super Sports, as I am really not happy of the performance especially in the rain as it turns the car into a right handful.

So Michelin are my personal preferred choice of tyre, so this is my question. However, Michelin make the correct size and width of tyre for my car in the Super Sport tyres which is what I am after BUT they are not N-Rated. Ive spoken to the dealer and they have said the following:

"The tyres themselves do not void the mechanical warranty on the car however if they themselves caused an issue that issue would not be covered."

So do I change the P-Zero's for the Michelin Super Sports?

On another side note, where is a good place to get a good quality trolley jack from? As I have been looking at these: http://www.sgs-engineering.com/tja25-aluminium-trolley-jack?gclid=CPayppamhMoCFaMSwwod2OQJpw

I had the same problem... the supersports size for rear are n-rated, but the fronts are not :(

The only difference for you then might be when warranty-renewal time comes around, like it was for me.

While they quote the same thing you mentioned... when it comes round to renewal time, they can refuse the renew the warranty based on non-n-rated tyres being fitted... stating that they will only give you a new warranty if you change the tyres at the same time... even if they're nearly-new.

You might have a while to wait for renewal or be rid of your car by then... just worth noting.

If I'd not been putting warranty on the car, I'd have gone for the supersports.

Ended up with PS2s... still a good tyre... just would have preferred the PSS.

The loan Cayman I had had the Pirellis on... I've heard about their wet issues... but they performed quite well for me in the dry :)

I got a really good trolley jack from Amazon... just check reviews and don't go too cheap and you should be fine.

If you go there and search for "Bahco-Jack" then look for the one selling for #228.52... that's the one I have and it's a very good piece of kit, well made, easy to use, low-low entry and feels like it's going to last a very long time :)

I have just over 2 years left on the warranty, so I believe that isn't a problem. What I have been thinking about is keeping the tyres and should have a warranty problem have them swapped backed over as I have a friend with a garage.

That reminds me, I need to get the Sports Chrono Clock analogue fixed again... bloody thing has stopped again to be honest its never worked right from the day I collected it.

I've been looking for a snap-on or Blue Point on but they seem pretty rare. Ill have a look into them.

Went from Pzero to PS2 an improvement and a lot more confident inspiring in wet.
Then went to MPSS and wow insanely good tyre in all conditions and lasted over twice as long.

MPSS is the best tyre I've ever had and I've tried most.

He has done well then as last I heard he was still waiting to find out.

I did also offer him the one that was offered to me as well.

There is a lot of stuff I can't really say on a public forum but I believe he has another one on the way but a different color sadly.

However, that car will not live again its destroyed! Its a really shame to be honest as it was a lovely car and some of the options on that are where my fault i.e PCCB's and Carrara White Meticallic paint. :(:(

How did he crash it? Lost it on wet/greasy road?

I know the back story but as you say I don't go into such things on here.

So I am sat in the Porsche dealer as my wife takes a Cayman out for a test drive. Being a lady she isn't after the fastest model in the world and is probably looking at the normal Cayman.
Any case if she likes it and wants to spec one, what are the most important things she should spec, any ideas will be great before she buys a car with 4 wheels and that's it oh and maybe a steering wheel:D .

My advice is buy the car you want and don't be lead by what people tell you that you must have, especially when it's an OPC sales rep trying to up the ticket price. They will talk resale value, colours you must go with, 10K of MUST HAVE options and most of the time you will take it back to another dealer and trade it for something else, a dealer who wants to sell you a new car so don't stress to much.

Cheers Housey we've got some time to put a spec to together, but I think we are going for the black edition Cayman with a couple of extras but not too many as the black comes with most of the toys the wife would like. Though she preferred the manual to the pdk which is a shame, but it's her car
