Cheaper than a 5 Series.

Yes and it does not go up after 60k miles also there is no "investigation" fee if they don't find a problem. The dealer is also quite good in that they will pick the car and drop you a loan car at the same time.

£1800 for 2 years sounds like a bargain. Is it really that cheap!?

Last time I paid 2k for 2 years but I was told by a friend that the prices have come down a bit.

They went UP over here :) The two year cover went up by 100 Euro about 1-2 months before I bought it.

But even after increase... cheaper in Germany... I paid 1570 Euro for two years warranty + 150 Euro for two years breakdown + 120 Euro for the 111-point check... that was when the exchange rate was near 1.4 too, so a bit over £1300 including everything...

They forced the breakdown on me... I didn't need/want it as I have RAC family cover... I didn't kick up too much of a stink though as even with it, it is cheaper than the UK and you do get other benefits with it like extended complimentary courtesy car and some other bits I forget.

My 2yr warranty was £1980 with recovery if I remember and service was spot on, if car broke they collected it and re-delivered it or put me in a hire car or one of their own cars. :)

Went to a dealer and looking at C2 996 cabriolet with 137k miles. Lot of history and nothing looking out of order except for a rip in the roof or where it had come away from the frame. Genuinely interested although not 'swoon, swoon' etc. Looked nice and I was genuinely interested.

Then I asked if I could have a Porsche PPI and he turned into "no, you're not taking it to them *******, they'll rip it apart etc, I'd rather sell it to other man (who couldn't afford it he was moaning...").... If you're not interested, go away, goodbye....".

Was I wrong to ask? I just want to know because Porsches are expensive if they go wrong.... I want them to be picky but all I'm interested in is the engine. Wear and tear items I don't mind. Seemed like right Del Boy.

If your budget really is £9995 then don't buy a 996 Cab, basically.

Who takes a £9995 911 for a Porsche Pre Purchase Inspection!? It's going to have loads wrong with it, no wonder the dealer couldn't be bothered with you.

I'd rather go into it with eyes open that's all. Apologies for being naive. The dealer showed me a complete history and I just wanted it checking by someone who knows best. I can stick a £500 engine in a £10k Mondeo no problem. It would cost me 20x that for Porsche.

Anyone got a 991 Carrera S? Been offered one for an extended test drive and thinking of getting a 2015 model second hand to replace my W205 C-Class. Any thoughts and also it would be my only car and daily driver. I'm single and no dependants if that helps.

Would go for one with decent spec as well.

So I've just bought a 1999 996 C2 Carrera Cabriolet lol.

Assuming it is oked by Porsche on the inspection. £100k car won't need one but a £10k one will.... I'm not buying a BMW or Ford. :)

No £10k 911 will pass a Porsche inspection surely?!

Why wouldn't it? If it as left the factory through good maintenance? They have to measure it set to tolerances to allow for wear and tear.

TBH I don't expect it to pass but I do expect it to highlight the areas I'm worried about i.e. gearbox and engine. It is bloody clean with good tyres etc however one patch of not-so-good paintwork so I want it checking out for that mainly as it's a shoddy job so I want the rest checking to make sure. My current car was a cat C, and my motorbike was a cat C.

Why wouldn't it?

Because Porsche standards are exceptionally high and it's a 17 year old bottom of the market 996. It's going to have a plethora of bits it'll fail on, many of which are probably to be expected on a car of that age and type anyway.

IMHO the only 996's that'll sail through a Porsche inspection will be the cosseted garage queens not the £10k ones.

Hang on, you say why wouldn't a 10k 996 pass, however you don't expect this one you want to buy to?

Why buy a nail then?

Because as Fox says it's not a show car and has been driven. They might fail it on it not having the right reg or headlights not being bright enough or something, I don't know. I've never had one done nor had a Porsche so this is all new to me.

If it was a year old £100k Porsche it wouldn't need one - but the age and price means it needs one more. I'm not as flush as many so I can't afford a £5k bill in a months time. £1k a year servicing etc and clutch stuff I can deal with and allow for.

This will come up with probably something in every category. If you can't afford 5k bill then walk away, Porsches are not cheap cars to own.
