Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Sound advice, advice I probably should have taken and believe me there were similar comments when I was buying. I am curious to see what Porsche come back with, surely it will make very grim reading.

Helpimcrap can you post the report on here when you get it? Really intrigued.

I can give details but no pic hosting. I want them to rip it apart - knowledge is power.

How do people do multicar policies? I can only use no claims on 1 car? But I can only drive one car at a time?? Sounds like a rip-off!

Many multicar insurance providers will mirror your no-claims across the vehicles on the policy.

I have a multicar with this and a clio on. I had 7 years no claims on the clio and 10 or so on the porsche so they just bundled it all together and gave me a price... It really is that simple.

In terms of what they report... Let us all know. I suspect that they will rip it apart but I wonder just how bad it will be. With all I have put into mine I have a feeling that it would only just poodle through one of these and it has N rated rubber and all new cooling system, air con system etc. What's odd is that they would fail it on having marine grade alloy manifold bolts as the OEM ones rot like mad. BTW if you fancy replacing the exhaust and manifolds make sure you have 1k+ spare for labour :)

Sorted eventually I think.... mirror across the policy with Admiral. Not bought it yet until the Porsche gets the ok.

Had done separate policies on confused.com with Porsche at 8yrs no claims and Focus at zero as it doesn't do mirroring - nearly £200 cheaper with Admiral after mirroring. No breakdown or courtesy car though. But I might be able to get that through my bank or something.

Thanks for advice all.

Wow I would love to see the report. Back in 2011 I owned a 997.1 targa for about 10 months.

In that time is had a new engine, new battery, lots of different bits and bobs, new suspension, coil packs (or the equivalent), lots of small oil leaks, coolent leak the list goes on and on. I think it had 22 to 25k worth of work.

It's madness to own the car without a warranty. On the upside I bought it for 28.5k and sold it for 31.5k and its worth around 31k now for the new owner.

It's probably going to be cheaper for you to take a 20k loan. Buy a 30k car with a OPC warranty, drive it for one year and sell it for more or less what you paid for it.

havimg said that I fell in love with the brand and I'm now on my 9th Porsche now.

Sounds a bit like my one that targa. I recon I have replaced over 100 parts that were bolted onto my car, some were cheap and others I had to take out a small mortgage for, the engine rebuild for example was just mental. Sadly there is still more that needs doing, at the end of the day it is an old car and the mk1 996 is at the point where age related wear is starting to mount up, exhausts are rotten and some of the plastic and rubber engine parts have just seen a few too many years and are starting to get a little crusty and brittle.

Had I have taken the advice from this forum when I wrote off the Boxster S I would probably be in a 997 with a huge chunk of cash in my pocket over where I am now but I looked at the bottom ish of the 996 market to save some money as I was also buying a house at the time. I bought with my heart and not with my head and then proceeded to plough good money after bad into the car, where most people might have just got rid I have just ploughed on. It became my project and it still is, I have learned a lot from it but its a project now that I am not sure will ever be what I want it to be.

I love the car and will never sell it now, not because its the best car I hoped to own but because I have so much in it now that I will never get back, not just in money but in time as well. If we were talking in terms of just money, right now I must have in excess of 30k into an NA 996.1 over the last three and a half to 4 years I have had it.

I have already told myself that once me and the mrs get married in November that I will start having a look for another car that I can break so that the 911 can spend more time off the road while I get it finished.

You and everyone else on the customer list, as with every other dealer ever when there is a model launch :p

It's a shame ill never buy one though, the F4 engine just kills it for me. Granted the car will be a improvement over the out going model. However, for me the noise of a "Sports Car" is one of the key selling points.

Plus the fact, I'm not a fan of soft tops. :D

Anyone got a 991 Carrera S? Been offered one for an extended test drive and thinking of getting a 2015 model second hand to replace my W205 C-Class. Any thoughts on it as a daily driver and my only car? single and no dependants which means not too many considerations.

Would go for one with decent spec as well.

Anyone :)

Several people on PH saying that their local OPC has not had any interest or orders for the 718 yet, maybe more people care about the powerplant (other than the numbers) than I thought.

It does sound pretty bad though, and >£50k for a 4 pot turbo is a lot of money, even if it is quick. It's got the Jaguar F Type V6 for competition at that money, which even if it's not as accomplished is going to be tough.

When I was looking at 911's, the dealer said barely any interest in the 718 and people were looking for the good deals on the out going models or used 911's instead.

First boxster release event I've rejected. Zero interest. Told Reading as much when they phoned to enquirer about my attendance.

I have had a couple. I will post my thoughts when I finish work soon.

Yah but it's still a nice evening out. I will probably go.

I'm thinking about putting a despot on a Macan GTS for delivery in Jan 2017. I have never owned a SUV so it may be a nice car to have for 3 or 4 months and if the market is the same the dealer will buy it back at list price.

Just a thought I have not decided on anything yet.

I have a 991 C4S (the NA 3.8 L version, my wife would absolutely not allow a non 4WD car in the house, especially if it occasionally has to transport kids...fair enough). I test drove the 991.1 CS and the new 991.2 CS twin turbo too. The 991.1 CS and C4S were far rawer experiences for me. The flat 6 engine sound is to die for. Stiff ride but perfectly usable around town. Having come from a few turbo-engined cars (GT-R, RS6, Pan Turbo), you really need to be higher in the rev range to feel you're getting any perceptible torque, but I love that about N/A cars. The 991.2 sounds rubbish in terms of engine sound although has a nice linear power band and instant/lag-free (almost) torque. It feels a little more refined than the 991.1 cars.

I personally love the C4S. Its a massive step down for me in terms of power, but more than enough. Very competent on normal roads, twisties and a bit of track. The ride is stiff and resembles my GT-R in "suppleness" but it does it well. Very planted on long sweeping bends and doesn't get too unsettled on bumps. It feels absolutely rock solid and bullet proof (has 20k miles). I'm probably going to go for a 991.1 C4 GTS next (although my C4S has an almost identical spec to one).

One other thing to say was that the OPCs were not that willing to negotiate in terms of price. Be firm and be prepared to walk away as you will be tempted to pay £10-15k over their true value. OPCs deal with some really naive/stupid buyers who either don't know or care about paying over the odds or feel that its somehow fine to pay more for an OPC car. Mine was just over 2 years old. Still 2 years warranty (as it had the extended 4 years warranty from new) and was in essentially perfect condition from a good independent specialist.

You won't regret it. Around £60-65k buys a reasonably good CS. Good to keep for 1-2 years and move on.

Back home finally, such a long day.

So here are my thoughts.

Options

Essentail
Full leather
PDK
Sports chrono (adds DEM also)
Paddles
PSE
Bose (very hard to sell without it)
Parking sensors

Very nice to have (almost essential)
14 or 18 way seats
Cruise
Universal audi interface

All other options are nice to have but I would not consider them essential, PDCC is nice, I have it but its not too common.

Avoid power steering plus, however if you find a car that has it the dealer can decode it for you.

C4S vs C2S- Strangely the C4S is the better drivers car, its also a wide body and has that lovely red light across the back, in my view its not worth paying £8 to £10k over a C2S for it.

I just don't think its worth buying a £90k 2015 car. You can get a amazing spec car for £65k to £70k. The warranty is only around £1k per year so there is really no benefit of buying a car that will drop in value like a stone for the next 2 years.

If you really want a newer car its well worth spending the extra and buying a GTS, its the only non GT 991 thats wroth spending 90k on and I would want a 4GTS.

If you are dead set on spending lots of cash I would look for a Targa, its a work of art.

They make the ideal everyday car. I use my 991 as a everyday car (well i commute on the train now) but the idea is that I will use it everyday. The GT4 is for the odd blast on weekends and the Panamera for when I am taking long trips or with extra people.

However I could happy get rid of the other 2 cars and keep just the 991. Its a bit of a animal when you put it into sports plus mode but very civilized and comfortable when just driving around in normal mode.

Its also quite efficient, I get 32 to 34MPG on a motorway run and mid 20's combined.

As a point of reference, I sold my old 2012 991 around 4 months ago with 23k miles, £20k worth of optional extras and 2 years warranty for £62k (ish)

Some cars

Good spec, I would want to spend under £88k on this

if you can live with the red this is a epic spec
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...rera-991/porsche-911-targa-4s-pdk/5430454?v=b

This is also really nice
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...11-mk-991-3-8-carrera-gts-pdk-2dr/5388498?v=b

This is a much more sensible buy, Its a nice spec, not too many miles, well priced. A bit boring color combo but it seems like a good car

I would have this over the above car

My car has £33k worth of options on it. Its not for sale yet but It will be at some point when I find something new.

Well after an extended test drive all booked in, got phoned today they can't do it because I'm 23 so under 25 and can't be insured. This is after they took my deposit for a 2013 model for good price and spec. Now got to try get that back...

They said if I can get my own temp insurance I can go ahead. But no temp cover polices cover me on their 2016 loaner 911 C2S because my age. Anyone have any ideas where I can get temp cover on a £101k car for my age?

Who are you insured with now? You could well get a car added temporarily for a small fee, I've done it before but not on a £100k car at 23. Call and ask, they can only say no!

Called my insurer and they want £6k for 10 months, but I can cancel within 14 days for a £25 fee.

Admiral who I'm with on my merc, don't offer a new replacement though. Is there anything I need to be careful with when insuring a test car? I don't want to be out of pocket if something happens when it isn't my car!
