Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

This seems like a ridiculous situation - having to insure a car yourself to test drive it from a major dealer?

Why are you putting deposits down on cars before this sort of thing is ironed out anyway? Surely with a deposit you've agreed to buy it?

I put down a deposit on the conditions I was satisfied with the test drive and that it wasn't an ex smokers car ( have this in writing) so could get a refund. I had to show I meant business as I'm only 23.. So they didn't laugh me out.

So it didn't fail on a single thing! So I bought it! :D

"they are not n rated tyres but they are good" "it's a Bosch battery, not a Porsche one."

And a few other heat plates showing signs of corrosion.

Overall very good for this year of car! Nearly new tyres. brakes had done less than 5000 miles they reckoned - all of it! Hood less than 10yrs old....

"I've seen a lot worse and there is actually nothing that needs doing. Keep an eye on 1 shock that has a film of oil on it but other than that - nothing."

Oh and I've got a receipt for a complete engine rebuild less than 20,000 miles ago!!!!

Why not test drive the second hand 2013 you've put a deposit on? This is surely a much easier task - and frankly more useful - than taking out a random brand new demonstrator anyway?

Surely you care how the car you are buying drives not a 3 year newer one that you can't insure because it's worth a hundred grand.

They only allow extended test drives on the demonstrator models and not stock. I want to an extended test drive on a long journey to see how comfortable it is as I've been burned before on a Z4 I bought.

This is very strange, as non "N" rated would fail an 111 point check and also void any chance of renewing a Porsche warranty.

On other news the new 718(Boxster), seems to be getting some very well written reviews not to offend Porsche it seems. However, the overriding feeling is improvement over the out going model apart from the engine as it sounds ****!

Yes, it does seem odd.

What tyres are fitted?

Surely visible leak from a shock is a failure point too. The entire point in the Porsche inspection is to verify the car is flawless for warranty purposes which of course it isn't with a leaking shock so how can it pass in that state?

Yes it would fail the option of getting a warranty but in terms of safety for tread etc no.

it's a 'misting' not a leak. It could have been there a while. I didn't say it passed - just didn't need anything doing which would cause it to be unsafe or dangerous.

"better than a lot of 911's this age and mileage" i'll take as a good thing. ;)

Called my insurer and they want £6k for 10 months, but I can cancel within 14 days for a £25 fee.

Admiral who I'm with on my merc, don't offer a new replacement though. Is there anything I need to be careful with when insuring a test car? I don't want to be out of pocket if something happens when it isn't my car!

Do you have a link to the car you bought.

Where did it come from if it isnt a leak, did the Porsche fairies visit it in the night and smear some on from another car? :p

You didn't say that at all, you said it didn't fail, which means it passed! Your story always seems to change on here :p

What tyres are fitted? Interesting that the Porsche Inspection rated them as 'good'. I wonder what passes for 'good'.

You are buying it from Colchester? They only have a 991.2 demo car at the moment unless they have sold the GTS. They are my local OPC, I'm not sure I'd ever buy a car from them due to past experiences.

That's his words but I agree with you as that's how I took it.

It didn't could mean it was borderline as it's a sliding scale of good. :p

Avon's I think. He said they weren't n rated but we're perfectly useable as they were a decent brand.

Oh and it also had issues with delamination on the 4 hub centre caps!
And a scuffed wheel!

Not to offend Porsche?...

It's a better car than the previous generation, which was the best in it's class. Of course it's going to get good reviews.

It's technically better than your GTS in suspension, power delivery, interior design and infotainment. The only thing you could hold against it is the weaker sounding engine.
