Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Maybe they will bring out a GTS with a NA engine at some point.

It would really make sense if they had a 3.4 NA engine in the Boxter and Cayman GTS and a 3.8 in the 911 GTS.

Not to offend Porsche?...

It's a better car than the previous generation, which was the best in it's class. Of course it's going to get good reviews.

What I mean by that is most of them seems to skate around the engine noise as not one of them have come and directly and said its sounds rubbish. As I guess in many ways that would be a little unprofessional. However, I’d rather the motoring press be direct and state the good and bad points clearly.

Matt Prior even states in the review "In my mind this is still one of the greatest open top sports cars you can buy no question. Am I enjoying that motor? (A long pause) I think I’d be enjoying if it had two more cylinders and one less turbo."

I think you can agree that above review isn't really glowing is it? When you compare it to the reviews of like mine for example.

Again the PH review is more or less the same.

It's technically better than your GTS in suspension, power delivery, interior design and infotainment. The only thing you could hold against it is the weaker sounding engine.

Yes, I won’t dispute that fact in terms of engineering it is an improvement but a better sports car I’m not sure.

However, given the choice both the 981 and the 718 (982) I’d still choose mine over the new car and that’s a view held by many people when looking on various forums. Also interest at the OPC's has been low on the 718's again that isn't a great sign.

Another gripe I have also going back to the motor again, how many people are going to pay 50K + (As we all know there are Porsche options) for a 4 pot turbo, it’s a step too much. IMO.

When you think of a sports car? What are the key factors you think about?

As for me, it doesn’t need to be the fastest thing on the road but it should bring a sense of occasion and enjoyment from the car. :D

It would be lovely to see that as id upgrade in a flash! Sadly I can't see that happening but I await with bated breath on that one as I know there have been rumours.

However, I can see the NA motors going in the GT cars and other special edidtions which saidly is going to push the price through the roof (Flippers).

I want to see this £10k 911, more details? Spec, age? And is it the Cat C one you mentioned earlier?

1999. C2S tip tronic.
Yep - according to the 111 tick boxes (guessing pass or fail) it 'failed' on non-Porsche tyres, non-Porsche battery, no CD changer, and not a Porsche radio. Some of it was N/A because it's not a manual.
Don't have any pics as no hosting. I pick the car up shortly.

6 pages of comments? LOL.

About 10 points of concern. Some of the 6 page involved a history check. But most were 'some signs of corrosion on heat shields' and cable ties on a cable.

Well after an extended test drive all booked in, got phoned today they can't do it because I'm 23 so under 25 and can't be insured. This is after they took my deposit for a 2013 model for good price and spec. Now got to try get that back...

They said if I can get my own temp insurance I can go ahead. But no temp cover polices cover me on their 2016 loaner 911 C2S because my age. Anyone have any ideas where I can get temp cover on a £101k car for my age?
Good luck :p

They wouldn't insure me on a 2011 Range Rover either due to my age, nor on a 996 Turbo. Not to waste my life away, but I wish I was 25 already :(

It's the batter\radio\n-rating that I was talking about - total money spinner to them, and of no consequence to you.

Have you looked it over yourself, or independently?

Buying any 17 years old car is brave. Buying a 17 years old car for £10k that is Cat C is very brave. Do you know when the Cat C happened and any details about it?

I wish you all the luck in the world ! and Pics ASAP! Don't forget the interior too!

I would have got parr or one of the other independents to do a thorough check rather than porsches 111 point personally. Anyway fingers crossed it doesn't throw up any big bills, you're braver than I would be in that situation.

Avon's I think. He said they weren't n rated but we're perfectly useable as they were a decent brand.

There is a first time for everything, Avon are a budget tyre brand aren't they? Put decent rubber on there and say goodbye to your 1k per year running costs in just one bill. A full set of quality rubber should be £800 to 1k.

By the way, imo the bridgestones offer the best compromise on the 996.

Not sure what Porsche forum you asked in but I would put 2k a year aside for running it rather than 1k. 2k is much more realistic I think. Much more than this if you are unlucky.

If he's put Avons on it, what else has been scrimped on?

I guess it depends, I genuinely have no idea if they are any good. I always have a nightmare finding the right size tyres and am left with a choice of 4 tyres. Michelin, Conti's , bridgestones or the pzeros. Can't even get super sports in the right size so choice is quite limited.

Perhaps I'm missing a trick? When I was looking I found a silver car that I looked at running nankang so it does get worse.

Cheers. Cat C was passenger side door and sill. Paintwork is not amazing on the sill but unless I point it out no one notices. A cat C car isn't a risk because it has to be checked by VOSA anyway to be road legal. A 17yr old Escort is a risk but there's plenty of RS Turbos in good nick. I paid a bit less than £10k as that included insurance and everything.

Cheers - I hope so too. It has a piece of paperwork from Strauss Porsche saying it had a complete engine rebuild 2 years ago so fingers crossed. It has en entire folder of receipts!

Cheers for the info. I agree that £2k is more likely however £1k is possible so it isn't the bottomless pit people say it is I'm hoping. I've never paid any attention to tyres but I'm not going to thrash it much.... I may have had a play and my god it shifts! lol

Tyres will depend on mileage and use - I won't be doing many miles and a lot will be at a sedate pace. How many miles do tyres last for?

It depends how you drive and what tyres. Some budget might be a really hard almost plastic like compound and wear over 25k miles. I have tried the entire selection of 4 N rated in 285/30/18 and out of the Michilin PS2, Conti SC2, Pirelli PZero/Roso and the Bridgestone Pontenza S02A I find the Bridgestone the best followed closely by the Michilin.

The PZero just has too much road noise and will wear in 8k miles at the rear and was my least favourite tyre, the Contis aren't quite as good in the wet as the bridgestone or michilin but were brilliant in the dry.

You get about 10k miles out of a set of rears on the other 3 of you drive relatively sensibly.

As for it not being a bottomless pit well that is yet to be seen. These cars have the potential to throw massive bills and within the year you could quite easily have it throw a bill that equals the value of the car, the invoice that you have for the engine rebuild should show you that. The question is are you willing to suck that up? Don't get me wrong I do wish you luck and as Del boy put it "he who dares wins". I just cant help but think that 10k is too much for a tip Cat C, there are quite a few 10k ones out there that have the same or less miles without the history at that price point.

Out of interest what is the spec like, any tasty parts in there? Also pics?

That's cool - it has a stainless exhaust according to the Porsche check.

For a few months it will be untouched bar maintenance. Oil looks clear though, brakes look good (bar warping so need discs skimming). Need to MOT it

I have pics but no hosting.
I love how I can put the roof up and down without being in the car! :D
Simple things lol...

I didn't pay £10k... including the check and insurance it's getting up to £10k...
