Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Another interesting review of the 718 Boxster, its also a bit odd that they have yet to annouce the 718 Cayman.

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/porsche/porsche-718-boxster-s-2016-review/

Firing the Boxster S’s engine into life results in disappointment, unfortunately. The metallic bark of the old flat-six on start-up is gone, replaced by a much gruffer, thudding, monotone burble.

Let’s put this in perspective: when the 911 switched to water cooling, enthusiasts threw up their hands in dismay, but really the car’s fundamental character remained. The switch to four-cylinder turbo power is much more damaging to the Boxster, but people care less because it’s not such an icon.

:(

Mirroring most of the reviews... hopefully they'll be able to improve it for the 718.2 or just go back to N/A

The torque curve of a turbo engine can be nice for normal road driving... but it's just not a proper sports car unless it's used to push fun power or something like a scoob (albeit I'm not the biggest fan of scoob driving character).

I believe going back to NA isn't going to be a option, due to EU emissions rules etc... That said these engines seem to use around the same amount of fuel then that outgoing NA counter parts.

I think it would have been better recieved if they went turbo but retained the flat 6 engine.

Well they kept a flat 6 (although only 3Ltr) for the new turboed 991.2 Carreras and that really hasn't helped them sound any better. The NA 3.8 Ltr flat 6 is a much more exciting engine. Its a bit of a lazy approach from Porsche. Puts me off the 911 Turbo too now.

The 991.2 GT3 won't be turboed though. So where they know they will lose enthusiasts in droves, Porsche are remaining true to tradition.

I'd 100% agree the M9A1 (3.8) is the honey in the range. AP has confirmed the next generation of GT cars will remain NA but then you have the fun and games trying to buy one. :(

The thing I found with the true 911 Turbo was the gas rush sound muted the flat 6 howl at the top end and not to mention it was horrifically quick.

I've also been thinking about what to replace the GTS with in a few years or do I just keep it until I can find a GT3. However, what puts me off the current GT3's (991.1) is the engine issuses as I would not want to have one without a warrenty. As their are on revision number 3 I believe of that engine and it still has oiling problems.

Nice olv, you liking the PDK, didn't consider a manual?

6sp box in the 987 is fantastic for proper drives, but would be tedious in London I guess.

For mine... I picked PDK vs Manual because I've been craving a double clutch gearbox for a while and it was my first opportunity to own one... they're sooo much better than old style autos.

But... after spending a few months with my car, I started wishing I had gone for the manual.

The PDK is great... but I miss the manual changes :)

SMG has converted me to auto until I have the space/need for more than one car. Compared to SMG it's much more intelligent in that it'll predict down changes more readily and you can rev it out to the redline regardless of mode. Obviously it's much faster and smoother to boot.

1999 C2 S cabriolet. Circa 128,000 miles (although letter from Strauss saying engine rebuild in 2014). No lights on dashboard.

Problem:
Stalls when idling or when I go from park to drive. Accompanied by a whistling noise that sounds like it's coming from front near petrol tank. Porsche Leicester suggested the filler cap so bought a new one as it had perished a bit so drawing air in. Worked perfect whole way home (20miles) but stalled when putting it in garage.

Suggestions? Porsche said it could be an air leak in inlet manifold as well.

It doesn't seem to do anything other than stall which is not ideal as found in traffic on way to Porsche lol....

it's an intermittent problem. Been told it could be a MAF sensor as well? Will it do any damage to the engine?

Normally when the MAF sensor goes it hunts on idle or its erratic, does it do anything like this or feel down on power?

Id also assume the engine has been compression tested? Also what the fuel pressure like, has this been tested to ensure its flowing at the correct pressure?

Porsche did their 111 point check and road tested it so they'd have spotted 'hunting' etc. Hunting I'm assuming means erratic idle?
Idle is smooth as about 500-700rpm.
When it stalls restarting it, it struggles to fire on all cylinders. With a few seconds of the starter and a bit of revs it fires on all.
I've since put shell v power 99 in.

Took even less time than expected! Hope its nothing serious.

I could be being really picky. Porsche were amazed I could hear a slight whistle from the filler cap when driving. :)

It seems to be ok on power. It ran better after putting in 99 V power so hopefully I haven't damaged the engine.

Was the engine pressure tested / leak down test, as I'm not sure if they do they on the 111 point check.

If its struggling to fire on all cylinders are fuel lines / fuel pressure ok? Also when where the coil packs / plugs last changed?
