Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

TG review this time for the 718 Boxster and it seems more of the same, which isn't great.

I feel the following quote is a very good summary.

Very spot on, new cars are losing character and fun factor. A car when you start it should make you smile and when you drive it even to the shops should be an event. Unfortunately so many modern sport cars, though so capable are not longer fun to drive unless your going extremely fast or on a race track and even then they can still be a bit meh. I think Boxster Spyder was the most fun last car Porsche did, yeah I know the GT4 is more capable and still incredible but the Spyder was such an event and very interactive and entertaining at low speeds. Though the whole roof/tent thing was a mess. :D

Watching closely the new TVR, Coyote 5.0 V8 engine with some Cosworth tweaking, carbon shell, could be a cracking bit of kit. But early days!

They see me rolling... They hating. :D

It passed it's MOT with a couple of advisories. But aside from a slight oil leak noted and the manifold corroded (but not leaking yet). Nothing. :)

PS HAD to go to college in it... To avoid rush hour as if I drove it back and picked my focus up I'd have been late. See, I can be sensible and responsible. ;)

Budget a lot of money for the manifold, the bolts will be rotten and will be a nightmare, 1k in labour should see it done then you need to work out what manifolds you want... I am currently on stock manifolds but have had the work done ready for my new exhaust next year. I am saving to have a full system put on but the system I want is almost 4k. To do mine we ended up taking the heads off and making a jig for the job which I can probably get my hands on if required.

What you want to end up with is something like this pic of my manifolds:

Be smart go marine grade for the replacements, the oem Porsche ones will be shot again within a few years.

Went into my local WHSmiths at lunchtime to see if the new issue of 911 and Porsche World was out. It is, and too my surprise my 944 S2 made it onto the front cover and there is a nice 2 page spread on it as well :D.

Needless to say it didn't win the shoot out as it didn't stand much chance when a 911 is in the line up, especially one that is 10 years younger.

Thanks for the advice. £1k in labour! Wow.
Luckily a mate of mine has worked on Porsches and has a workshop available.

That's good work on yours though - very clean. Stainless steel nuts and washers? Mine has stainless end-cans on it apparently.

I did mine last year - but all bolts came out without breaking thankfully - only cost a few hundred quid.

I went with original parts though - not the cheapest! Did the o2 sensors at the same time. Came to about 3k.

Booked car in for service and have requested a 718 for the day so will report back next month (unless they get a 991.2 demo in before then)

That was really good news and perhaps quite lucky, the people doing mine managed to snap 11 of the 12 bolts and some were snapped too low to weld nuts onto hence the jig and costs. I think 1k is probably the worst case scenario but judging by the threads on 911uk.com I would say that the average is somewhere between £500 and £800 to get the job done.

You guys are spending so much running your cars it's mad.

Having said that I may have something a bit special arriving next week. Deposit is down and it's not a 458 but it could throw some large bills at me. I'm hoping the warranty will cover most things.

Macca 570 or 650S? If so, respect. Thinking of hitting fire on a 570S soon.

Not everyone has the capability to flip every Porsche model to fund the next one so gotta spend to keep the old ones running.

Yea, we had an engineering firm on standby who specialise in removal of the snapped bolts, but not needed thankfully.

Put 2 guys on it - was done in 30 mins, couldn't believe it.

I replaced my mufflers at the same time as they were corroded (second hand pair - as new), and new OEM tail pipes, so replaced the entire system. Had Gert Carnewal work his magic as I was over in Beligum with the Mrs soon after.

Sound nice!

Beautiful car. Will you sign on the dotted line before or after the next junior doctor strike?

Haha I'm not in medicine for the money.

One of the best sounding ferraris. Can only really appreciate over time. Is it the one in Guildford?

Ahhh sorry not that exciting. It's a granturismo stradale MC.

But it's still not 100 percent. Will see next week.

Sorry I did not mean to sound the way it came out.

Nice, probably one of the best sounding cars of the last few years.

Dad and I went to see a very interesting and rare Porsche this morning. A 944 Turbo Cabriolet in midnight blue. One of about 100 RHD examples. Still not sure if we are going to get it as it would need a bit of work doing on it and we really need it inspected to know what we would be getting into.
