Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I changed the bolts for the manifold on my turbo as they looked a bit rusty. I had to use a DIY torque multiplier (a steel bar luggage strapped to my ratchet) fortunately non snapped but I've replaced them with stainless bolts so they should be easier to remove when the manifolds need replacing. Why all these bolts aren't just stainless to start with is beyond me. Fwiw I did it on my back on the drive without jacking the car up so access isn't too bad.

Why don't people use thread and nut though? Surely that would be better for future proofing? Leave the threads in and just undo the nut when you take it off.

I asked the same question to an engineering friend at uni when I was doing an engine swap... apparently it's due to shearing thresholds and stainless is weaker in that regard.

Some people have put brass nuts and stainless studs on the exhaust to prevent corrosion. I just can't understand why mild steel is used in the harshest plate on these cars with the combination on extreme heat and lots of moisture/salt.

The promise of a bit of summer sun swayed me to the boxter over a cayman in the end!
Picked this up this morning, 2005 Boxter S in my fav colour, cracking condition, only 65k on the clock and judging by the wad of receipts and service history, very well looked after :)

I went for a Sunday morning drive and breakfast with some friends down to Goodwood.

360 challenger thing. NSXR, M5, 991 Turbo S, TVR, R8 so it was a mice turnout.

I'm starting to fall out of love with my 911 and started to feel I would rather be in the GT4. It's just so much more focused (obviously). I think I will plan a driving weekend down to the Brecon Beacons next weekend and take the GT4 for a blast on some nice roads.

I hate to say it, but if you don't need the PDK, the GT4 is just flat out the better car. It's unlikely I'll ever buy another 911 now, unless it's a GT3RS. The GT4 is arguably the best car I've ever driven, I even prefer it to the 997.2 RS.

Friend of mine is a hands on Architect, but being female she doesn't get a lot of respect on building sites from the Site Crew management.

She used to have a classic MG and she kept it in mind condition, and she noticed she would get way more props turning up in it from the lads than if she turned up in anything else so she is keen on being in a car that is interesting and good fun to drive.

She has her heart set on a classic 944, doesn't matter which engine as long as its not the older 2.5 one.

She saw this one and it looked in good condition, until she did a HPI check and informed the owner it was a CAT C.

Anyone any advice on purchasing a 944 for around £8k? She is aware it will cost a fortune to run and potentially break down all the time, her MGB was the same.

I sent her the illuminate owned one posted above and she got a good laugh out of it and almost arranged to go and see it.

Agreed. I had been close to buying a 991 GTS, had one in my sights, great spec in OPC Portsmouth. A friend of mine who has had a few 911 GT's (currently 991 GT3 RS, previous 991 GT3, 996 GT3 etc) and likes similar things to me said I'll go drive it, my office is over the road (I'm 150 miles away) so off he went. However at the same time they said have a go in the GT4 and right then he realised it was so much more special to pedal.

I still remember the call....

"The GTS is lovely mate, fast, capable, great spec.......but.......that GT4 is a different level all together. If I had to have one over my 991 GT3 I would not feel short changed, in fact I'd argue it's more fun, not as fast, but much more like out old 996 GT3 in feel and pace". At that point I forgot the GTS, but my principled self won't let me pay overs for a car like this so I went without after another friend decided to keep and then flip his GT4 I had in my sights. Don't blame him one bit and when the Gen 2 GT4 comes out I think the Gen 1 will normalise but I think this car MUST be manual.

This is a really in depth view on the 718 Cayman.

Long term review on the Cayman GTS.

I really need to get around to filming mine. :D

Housey I Get why you don't want to pay overs but the cost of ownership if you had spent say 95,000 on a GT4 would probably be lower than spending similar sort of money on a A V10 R8 as I assume the GT4 will hold its value for the next 2 or 3 years.

If you look at the general trend over the past year, I think they peaked at £110/115K and they have slowly dropped to around £90K at present. Also when you look at the current market there are 68 GT4's for sale, so there is a lot of choice. I also have a friend who has his GT4 listed at £95K and hasn't been able to sell it yet, so they are not flying out the door. So I think they will start to flattern out in price and drop a little more but the interesting point would be when they released the "718" GT4.

I'd take mine over a GT4 at less money every day. It's massively more car for the money. I was looking at 110k to 115k for the right spec when I bought my R8 for 86k. I think those cars will be 80's in 12 months, mine is unlikely to be 56k. The GT4 is not selling for big overs. It will soon be at list I feel

When you stopping by OcUK, you need to take me out! :D

Take a flight to Orlando, you can drive the GT4.

I was incredibly fortunate to get one for msrp, never thought that would happen, and figured I'd missed my chance.

Ah at 86k the r8 makes sense. I assumed you had spent around 100k. Drop me a line before you sell it I'm still keen on having one at some point.
